Re: Air Cleaner for an Unknown 4.3 Engine in 89 Camaro

That looks to be the '85-'86 4.3L full size pickup ONLY with 4bbl carburetor. I see what looks like the stainless headers too. Origionally ESC distributor. What a mess...

Re: Where does the high speed fan relay mount with a non-AC HVAC box?

I've not seen a high fan relay in non-AC applications in this era. The non-AC fan is a lower amperage fan motor.

Re: A/C system 100% new and not working right

I'm out of ideas then. I did not realize any N.A. designed GM product had a capacity that small in that era.

Re: A/C system 100% new and not working right

You should have good cooling with those pressures, IF the capacity is correct. I recall the original capacity in this era being around 3.25lbs.

The pressure drop with water is to be expected,...

Re: Cat with constant AIR injection?

Correct, it would be hotter in general, but rich with air injection would create an over heat condition.

Re: Cat with constant AIR injection?

AIR is diverted under some normal operating conditions, and specifically under emission failure conditions. A rich condition with air injection to the converter can create excessive underfloor...

Re: 5k mi time capsule 83 - check out the lack of opts

I'm 99% sure the logo at bottom of the radio is Audiovox. They looked very similar to the Delco units, but sounded terrible, IMHO

Even a dealer installed, Audiovox radio.

Re: factory radio security override

That's a nice radio! I'm glad someone pointed it out, as I forget that there are a few good for swaps into older vehicles.
Do you know if it suffers the burn out of the LCD backlite bulbs like the...

Re: factory radio security override

Most by 2000 are serial bus (must see mating VIN on the bus) and are a whole other can of worms, besides being double DIN. Others will be fine as long as some did not set the code. Those can be...

Re: dash swaps

That cluster communicates over the GM LAN bus, not discrete inputs. You have a nearly impossible task on your hands.

Re: 2004 Montana radio in '85 T/A ?

I really appreciate that.

A smart fellow over on Firebird Nation had done a really nice, earlier serial bus radio transplant into his F body, but I couldn't find anything regarding the late...

Re: 2004 Montana radio in '85 T/A ?

It is a shame, as the first generation GM double din radios are pretty cool, and Pontiac used some (Bonneville, Gran Prix, Grand Am, Montana) that do look look period correct for older vehicles...

Re: 2004 Montana radio in '85 T/A ?

2004 are class 2 serial bus radios. It can be done (as in my avatar), but it will need the matched DIM (Dash Interface Module, usually the power mode master by design) to power it on (serial bus...

Re: Fair warning about AC Delco Ignition Control Module D1943A

That's even the best quality version too!
I don't trust AC Delco like I used to.
Any sign of overheating on the metal bottom of the module or dielectric grease?

Re: AC not working, where is most likely source of leak?

Most likely source is the front seal of the R4 compressor. Dealing with the R4 is rough for a DIY, as GM/Delphi hasn't made them for years and the replacements (even if they say AC Delco) don't have...

Re: 1989+ TPI: Have you had to replace your injectors, and why?

The first generation Multitecs had a questionable reputation across GM car lines. The resistance typically drops as they fail, and sometimes intermittently short out and kill the engine (as...

Re: What is this pipe next to/in my exhaust on my stock 89' Camaro exhaust?

No on belt driven pump GM ODB 1. The A.I.R system by design only injects air to the exhaust manifolds when the system is open loop. There is no ECM monitoring, i.e. current monitoring of the...

Re: Speaker resistance

Learn something new everyday. I 'think' my A-bodies may still have 10 ohm speakers with the late ETR units. I did not realize GM started the mixed ohm speakers with the early ETR head units. I...

Still looking for how to introduce myself on this forum. Not an F-body guy, but saw useful info from some great people!

The valves by default allow coolant flow, i.e. heat, without vacuum. GM...
