you could also slide the hood down some. loosen the bolts that connect the hood to the hinges, I believe they're slotted holes.

It was my understanding (as Qwk has stated also) that the vacuum ball helps with the door actuators, so I left it. I had to relocate it toward the front of the EVAP tray to make room for the filter....
