Update:

After chasing this issue for several weeks, I took it out and tore the whole engine down to find the problem. This ended up being the culprit.

Only cell phone pics at the moment. It's a color that only gets noticed when in the sun. If it's cloudy, dark or in the shade it is boring and goes relatively unnoticed.

That paint isn't even close. I've used it on many other projects and it looks great, but isn't the right color or finish for the valve covers.

Two weekends of racing under my belt with the new battery and it is great so far. 8-10 runs per day with the fan and pump on for 15-20 minutes between rounds and there's always been plenty of juice...

I've used Spohn and UMI. Both fit well and work. I bought the UMI's because Summit had them cheaper and they ship faster than Spohn.
