Hi just rebuilt this 5.7 1988 tpi engine deleted air con and smog controls, also decatted exhaust, fitted 3'' magna flow, she starts and idles Ok without maf but when fit maf seems as if it over...

Hi
Anybody know if this can be sorted without respraying the whole front valance ? looks like cracking in the clear coat, as the car was resprayed about 3 years ago and had several coats of clear....

Yes using 86 harness, The original engine was a 5.0, it was only running a single fan. Now has 88 5.7 out of Pontiac, which is basically a Chevy engine anyway.

Steel/Iron heads not aluminium they are original heads, sorry for poor descriptions,

Yes Understand about cast heads, I don't know why the old bolts I found had washers on them ? unless someone had rebuilt it before, as only owned it about 2 years. yes did do sealer around threads...

I have got to replace my head gaskets :( After some searching in the garage I have found 2 new ones.

Fel pro part no 7733PT2 are these the correct ones for my 1988 5.7 TPI camaro Cast...

Thanks will have a look at the PCV as I did fit billet ones could be a problem there.
I still will replace the 403 egr with the correct one while it is stripped cheers

Ok My mistake miss read summit listing.
So now all i need to know is how much of an issue did the EGV403 cause me as car ran but had issues with to much pressure in crank case.

I Purchase EGR valve from summit racing EGV 403 this is for 305,

oil dip stick chewing

I recently Rebuild my 350 tpi engine put an after market chrome engine oil dip stick in, and found after starting engine it chewed the end of the dip stick :confused:
I was lucky manged to remove it...

Thanks have the car now anyway so will need to take my time with it.
Fuel presures where checked and were if i remember 40lbs dropping to about 35lbs

NO i have a Pontiac engine.

Unless what you are saying is that the car i pulled this engine from which was a 1988 Pontiac Firebird TPI was not a true Pontiac because Pontiac fitted Chevy engines...

Yes ok but if my rotor is turning wrong way my computer will be confused surely as the Ecm used is out of the 88 firebird which had the rotor turning the correct way counter clockwise.

Checked out direction of rotor on this pontiac V8 engine first.
Now according to reliable web site rotor on a 1988 Pontiac turns counter...

Still have big problem with this engine runs but very uneven will not run low down revs can not be driven running out of things to check changed thottle body not that she is all over the place :(

Have tried old 305 ecm no joy :(
After some investigation found engine to be from a 87 Firebird as it has a 9th cold start injector which im sure the 88 does not have.
So don't think it's a Vats...

I brought a 88 firebird engine because was to after 88 the differences where bigger on TPI engines.

I will try pluging in the old 305 ecm see...

Yes have good spark check out fuel pressure but that could only be injectors or fuel regulator does not even pop and bang wish it did at least i feel better:(
