oil dip stick chewing
I recently Rebuild my 350 tpi engine put an after market chrome engine oil dip stick in, and found after starting engine it chewed the end of the dip stick
I was lucky manged to remove it (Just) as it was jammed replace it with old one which is fine.
Any idea's as would like a chrome one but now scared to try another one incase it damages the engine

Was the new one identical to your old one?
There are different styles ( lengths ) of dipstick depending on the age ( version) of your engine block

Re: oil dip stick chewing
what year is the engine? there is supposed to be a sleeve about 6" long that goes into the dipstick hole before putting the dipstick tube in.. this sleeve's whole purpose is to keep the dipstick away from the crankshaft. i know the older (80 and older) engines with the dipstick on the driver's side all have this sleeve, but i don't know about the newer blocks with the passenger side dipstick.

Re: oil dip stick chewing
Looking at the eBay listings it appears the early 80's engines (2 pce RMS ) with the pass side dipstick are the same as the '87+ 1 pce RMS blocks

Re: oil dip stick chewing
Thanks guys
I think it may have been my own fault as just check back on my Ebay account in 2010 and the dip stick i ordered was for early SBC up to 85 mine was a 86 TPI with p/side stick and yes it does have tube that was not the problem, i have ordered another one flexi says its for 86 onwards but will check before install this time.
Thanks for the help guys
