Check your TPS voltage -reading should be about .55 to about .65 at idle, give or take.

The photo is a bit deceiving - what you think is a plastic shell is actually steel. I did clean one of them and it looks just like it should.

Unfortunately as I removed them I didn't pay mind to do a visual inspection of them. Just tossed them in the box. Later as I was taking them out of the box did I notice those only 2 with the crust....

Moldings have there bad points for sure. They are mostly moisture traps - Wheel well moldings are good example where, in rainy conditions
a 'rust' factory. The 1st gens were notorious.

Yes, I own a black/black 1989 IROC that was sitting for 14 years in someones back yard - it has 38,750 original miles but the motor had to be removed due to a spun bearing - maybe the reason for it...

yes, one injector having a shorted coil could possibly affect those others in the same bank. You can easily check that by removing the connector to each one and use an ohm meter. Should get a reading...

This is just a guess but assuming that your fuses are ok, check the grounding toward the ECU. Has to be either in that or the other end of the fuses toward the ignition. You will need a volt/ohm...

Carb would work, but having the TBI would be a lot better - less maintenance and tweaking, but that's just my personal taste.

It's sounds like a better option than the 2.8 - if you go the TBI...

One problem with the 3rd gens as far as being affected by weather is the discoloration of the front fascia. Ugly option of putting a bra on it...had a red 88 that you can almost say it was 2-tone...
