sounds like a lot of work!! I painted mine black over the stock texture and I think it looks good (not perfect, but better than the stock gray). I'd love to see pics of smoothed out stuff.

I covered mine with some stretchy fuzzy stuff from my local fabric store. Used some duct tape to hide the cracks and spray glue to hold it on. Molds well to the shape and looks good imo. Will post...
