they're cheap, plentiful, and most of them are already trashed anyway

Seen the insurance commercial where the Mini cooper jumps across the roof of the thirdgen bird?

I think they are just going to the junkyard getting a fairly straight one--cheepo paint job and nice tires and wheels so it photographs good and go!

Somebody contact the production manager and make a deal with him that they will donate all the cars they use/trash to TGO. Engine parts, wheels, computer, there's stuff to pull off, I'm sure.

Or am I too naive?

No, that's an excellent idea--but I bet they just throw the "trash" in the dumpster. My sister worked for the Dukes of Hazard, special effects--they bought that orange paint in 50 gal. drums, had a huge roll of stars 'n bars tape for the roofs, a crew that scoured the country for Chargers and crushed about three of them per episode, had a contract with a scrap yard to get rid of them.
But, as you say, it makes our good examples of 3rd gens more valuable.
So, did Austin 3rd gen have its meeting on the north side of town that Sunday?

Yeah, some people don't understand that towing a car to a junkyard is not the really best option to end its life. I am all for recycling (I am even subscribed to the local Freecycle group). Especially cars and parts. A lot of abandoned cars leaking oil and gas into the ground is not going to do any good to the environment.

The meet went well, we are planning on having one each month from now on (monthly Sunday breakfast). If you wanna come down here and join us, we sure wouldn't mind!

Excellent--will do. My brother just bought a house in Leander. A couple of more paychecks and I'll be there.
