Hurricane Rita

If it's strong enough and a direct enough hit, we are outta here!

I hope everybody takes the necessary precautions--plan ahead do whatever U think is necessary to survive

REMEMBER WHAT KATRINA DID!

C U on the other side (of the hurricane)

I hope U guys that live along the coast, close to the water, especially those of U who are new to the area and are not experianced hurricaners, are paying attention!!!

If it goes cat 3 or stronger and we are going to have a direct or semi-direct hit, don't think U can ride it out!

GET THE CRAP OUT OF DODGE!!!!!!!!!!

we're packing up tonight and boarding up tomorrow, planning on leaving tomorrow evening. Right now we're just planning on heading to Pearland to my sister's house, but depending on any turns it takes, we'll be heading to Pittsburg (north of the Longview area).

We're taking my car, my dads truck, and mom's car. Everything else is going into the shop. Just hope the roof stays in one place. If current storm surge predictions are right, we're expecting at least 2' of water in our house. When TS Frances came through in '98 we only had a 6'-8' surge in our area and water was within 3', probably more like 1' of our foundation level. So....we'll see what happens.

We've got my brother's jeep here at the shop that we're mounting some 36" tires on incase we need it to get back into the house on Sunday. Wish there was something more I could do with my car, but don't have a lot of choices. Don't really want to leave it here at the shop as it might get water in it and I'd say there is a good chance the roof will come off if we get a direct hit. My sister's house should be ok, but their subdivision is pretty low, so I dont know...

Good luck to anyone else in this area.

When U say you are taking your car, is that the thirdgen or your daily driver?

We are planning on loading up both of our cars, as well as packing Mom's car when we get over there, and hitting the road if necessary. Depends on where it goes in!

Corpus, we will probably stay here and ride it out. More north than that, or bigger than Cat 3 and we are bailing!

I have stayed in my thirdgen....ealy 90's, Galveston Island State Park, summer time, skeeters swarming on attack missions.......was not a good night.

I'm currently about 150 miles south of NOLA, all gear picked up and slowly heading E x NE. Winds are brisk but normal. Wife is packing up, leaving Texas City for Austin. 3rd gen is supposed to get garaged in League City.

Anyone in / around H-Town, watch this storm closely, and be prepared!

I'm a little worried about my
House on Bolivar , being 100 yards from the Gulf and all. But I have a feeling it won't come this way. Maybe I'm just an optimist.

But actually I'm hoping that one day we will have a third gen party like the old HFB parties...Those were the days!

and that will be difficult if a cat. 5 mows my house down.

But I don't think it (the hurricane) will happen.

I still have hope a slim hope that TGO will be able to come up with a party like HFB used to be able to.

esc, you're what, in or next to Emerald #1?

My wife and I have been Crystal Beachers since kids in the mid-60's. Lived in Holiday Beach Add'n, just sold a couple years ago. Still have property on Monkhouse. Hoping to build there soon. If there is anything left after Rita, we should meet up down there. CB is a Great place for a mud-bug boil.

When we get Rita behind us, WE NEED TO HAVE ONE BMF PARTY, just to celebrate the fact that we made it through the storm, and that we are alive!

hope my car makes it through ok I'm not real sure what to do with it. I don't want to leave it at our shop because we're worried the roof is going to come off. I'm definitely not leaving it in the garage because we're predicting about 6' of water in the house. And I don't know that I want to take it with me to Katy because I don't want to leave it outside.

If I do have to leave it outside, I'm putting my cover on it and a tarp over the top of that to protect it from the driving rain and any small flying debris. About all I can do.

You're right on the BMF, and ditto on the place to crash.

Only problem is we're directly on the path for Sunday when it will "ONLY" be a Cat 1 or 2 by the time it gets here with lots of tornado spin offs. Hmmmm..... wonder if I ought to be making some plans.... NAW!

I WON'T PUT YOUR TO WORK! ALthough any offers of assistance on whatever little B.S. thing I've got going would not be declined.

Luckily, I live on a residential corner so I have lots fo curb parking space on the street as well. Two spare/unused bedrooms with twin beds, couple of more couches as well, for the "right" kind of TGO buddies (honest, friendly, likes or doesn't mind the really friendly 100 lb. black Lab, 4 or 5 lb. kitten, or the racket my wife's 6 parrots can make).

Well, I may be making the wrong decision here, but even though it is going to Cat 5, if the projected track stays the same, we are leaning towards riding it out, AND HAVING ONE HELL OF A HURRICANE PARTY!

Craig y'all should be alright where you're at, just going to be some strong *** winds and rain. Flooding shouldn't be a concern. We're just going to Katy so that we can get back as soon as it starts to die down.

Inside H-Town, West and North should be fine regarding surge, could still have hella winds, rain, street flooding (rain) & tornados.

Zap, you'll have to serv 'Ritas!

My thoughts and prayers are with you guys. My folks and family are packing up and leaving town today (NE side of Houston).

Good luck guys! Put your cars on jackstands in closed-in garages if you can.

WOOT for changing weather. Rita is headed EAST now, going it more towards Sabine if not even into Louisianna. My car is staying at the shop now and we're just staying at my granddad's house here in town. If at the last minute we need to we'll head up to Katy where we were originally planning. She's shifted far enough east now that we'll get the "good" side of her, just be wind and rain. My dad and I are talking about getting the camera out and driving around until it gets really bad. Good luck to the rest of you on the east side of town.

Don't let your guard down yet! Keep hoping and praying for even more of a northerly/right turn!!! Not that I would wish this on anybody, but if it's them or me, then..........

Hey Wheel Spin, I just wanted to apologize about the car thing. I wasnt really sure why you never replied to the post about my camaro.

To all you guys down in the warning area, I wish you good luck and I hope everything turns out to be ok. Kind of makes you wonder why the 2 hurricanes like this back-to-back.

We're riding it out (Tomball area). Supposed to get 8 - 12 hours of high winds and ALOT of rain in this area.

To all riding it out or to ones in harms way, our prayers are with you all.

Be safe,

I boarded up my entire house after seeing the forecast on Tuesday I think, It showed the line of the eye going right through Katy. Things are looking better for us over here now to the west of the storm. I Pity those poor bastards who spent like 27 hours in their cars to try and get somewhere. I think Id rather take a beating than go through that.

Hi Guy's,

We had mandatory evacuation thursday. Packed up our condo completley. It took us a 15 hour drive to get over to Barker Cyprus that would have taken a hour. Most of our stuff is still at Jean's sisters.

Took the camaro over early thursday and came back in the truck to get more stuff.

Now just have to phone work tomorrow to see if I'm in or not Sunday.Hopefully not.

All we have in Clearlake is a few trees down. Power all on,unlike where we just came from.

Alex & Jean

Looks like I had soem minor damage. I'm told that there were 90-100mph winds for 12 hours out on Bolivar.

esc, hope that was SUPPOSED to be downstairs.

Two of my sons live in Port Neches, north of Port Arthur. Can't go home for a month. One son says his house is the only one around with a roof. But everyone is safe.
