New Engine in, Just waiting on loom
Hi Guy's,
Got the new tpi motor in today. Everything plumbed in. Just waiting for the new loom to arrive from Hawks. Should have the car up and running again by next week.
Didn't start the engine swap unitl 1pm yesterday what with all of the rain, had it all in and bolted up by lunch today. Has been a two day hard slog.
Can't wait for next week.
Alex

From a member in San Antonio who was upgrading to an LS1. Bought it a couple of months back. Didn't know I would need it so soon.

Why are you having to change the harness, I made sure not to damage it when we removed it from his car.

Changing the harness because my car is an Auto. The original harness is perfect and I wish I could of used it. Still going to use the ECM with just a chip change.

OK--have to excuse my ignorance. Someone educate me! What is the difference in the harness in one made for a manual and automatic. is it just the couple of plugs to the tranny that feed info to the brain or is there more, and what does it control anyway?
I guess I am asking all this cause mine was modified before I bought my car, and as far as I know there is no plugs or wiring going to mine anymore, cause mine is now a non lockup converter, and a manual shift only 700R4.

There is extra wiring that goes to the transmission for the lockup converter and the harness is slightly different at the brain end. I could of possibly altered the manual harness with parts from my old tbi harness but it seems a shame to cut up a perfect manual harness.

Re: New Engine in, Just waiting on loom
Hi Guy's,
New loom arrived today. Had a quick look at it tonight can match most of the connectors up except two cut orange wires over on the drivers side and two pairs of wires on the passenger side which look like they are near the battery. The wires near the battery are a pair of black wires, one with a red tracer, and a pair of black wires, one with a purple tracer. The orange wires are on the same part of the loom that goes to the brake master cylinder, oil preasure switch and emissions canister.
Anyone know what these two orange, and the two pairs of black wires are for?
Thanks,
Alex

Re: New Engine in, Just waiting on loom
Hi Guys,
I've worked out what the two pairs of black wires are for. they are for the dual fan setup. Still don't know what the two cut orange wires are for, any ideas?? Also up near the plenum I have a plug with a yellow wire and a black wire, but don't see where it goes, any ideas?
Thanks,
Alex

Re: New Engine in, Just waiting on loom
was that a used loom U got?
I'm not sure if they would be the same because of the year model--etc, but maybe U could go by that guy restoring his in another--Casem1- and look at his-- he's out there in League city--that's close to U isn't it?

Re: New Engine in, Just waiting on loom
It was a used loom, Another member sent me a great article on repinning the TBI loom, which is what I've now done. Seems to be very straight forward. Will see if it all works tomorrow.

Re: New Engine in, Just waiting on loom
Hi Guy's,
Have the car up and running again and wow what a difference the tpi makes. Finished the car yesterday with all the wiring and fitted the fuel pump. Car fires straight up with no check engine lights. Have some leaks on the exhaust manifolds which I'll get around to fixing on the weekend. Car performs really well with the new engine.
Now have a few parts leftover from the conversion for sale.
Full uncut speed density harness from stick shift car with ecm and stick shift transmission chip. $250
TBI Inlet manifold complete with TBI, sensors. TBI unit has been fully rebuilt complete with TBI ECM and superchips chip. No Harness as I used that in the TPI conversion. $150
Once again guy's thanks for all the information that helped in the conversion.

Re: New Engine in, Just waiting on loom
The harness is from a 92 Z28 with a T5 Transmission. I want $250 for it with the ECM.
Thanks,
Alex

The engine is a 305, I'm using a standard chip in it for the moment. When I get around to hop ups I'll keep you in mind.
