Well they found it and I have it back. There is less damage than I expected. The steering column is destroyed and the check engine light is on. One of the front wheels is bent and the steering doesn't feel right. Otherwise it is complete and there doesn't appear to be any body damage. They put ~320 miles on, so they had to put gas in it. They left a shirt, jeans and an ATM receipt (not mine) in the back seat. I called the police and am going to take them the receipt. I wonder if they will actually pursue it?

Man that's great you got your car back. I had a dream the night before someone stole yours that somebody stole my '88 Formula 350. I woke up sweating! They better pursue it, there's damage that needs to be paid before! I would want to find the person responsible for taking my favorite toy.

Seroiusly?! WTF is worng w/ them?! It's an easy bust! It'll be +1 to their quota! Sheesh, the ATM means they have name, address, and even if those were fake, (assuming a mildly intelligent person) they have a picture. Judging by the fact the atm reciept was in the car, the crook is probably a retard, and doesn't have a clue on how obvious that makes him as the thief! If they don't track it down, take it to the xecutives of your city, or at least start w/ the chief of police! Something really should be done!

I'm really glad to hear that your car is back. You are very lucky it wasn't damaged any more than that. I hope the cops get off their asses and find those guys. Now, about the steering column, replace the entire thing. If you just repair it, it will probably continue to come loose over time. I went thru that problem with 2 of the 3 thirdgens I've owned. A complete column can be had for about $100.
Good luck!

Try going to the bank. Who knows, maybe they'll help you do some PI work. I've pulled many a surveylance tape working at a bank. The atm will have a camera or two or three, the receipt will have a date&time (as will the videos), and the account will definitely have a name. Shoot, if the guy stole a car, he may be trying to pull a fast one the bank too!! Take a copy to the bank and let them know what's going on. They may even thank you.

I was around outside of hurst heading towards dallas to get back to denton yesterday. I had to stop and get gas, and after filling up the tank, my tank decided it needed to be emptied, unfortunatly there was a line to the restrooms, so I went back outside closed the windows and locked it up. When I got back outside, I noticed a white grand prix, around '90 One realitivly small african-american male was walking towards my car, when I started walking faster towards my car he turned around and got back into his car. I should've gotten his license plate as F-Bodies are not common theft cars, especially 3rd gen f-bodies! They may have been related as I wasn't too far from grand prarie. Keep on the lookout!
Honestly I would do some PI work if I were you, the cops probably still won't do anything but a Distric Attorney probably would!
Good luck!

How did they manage to steal it? The crooks dont sound very smart. Probably were just joy riders. Did they smash the stearing column to steal it? I thought are cars were supposed to have VATS.

Here is how they broke the column. My '87 doesn't have VATS, but 89ROC's IROC does, so I guess it was introduced in '88 or '89. With my luck later '87! I think they were just looking for a ride. In addition to the ATM receipt they left a credit card receipt.
