My wife and I recently moved to Houston because the Austin job market is so bad. We've been here for 6 weeks now and are unable to find any work. We've both got 4-yr degrees, and at this point are not picky at all about where we work or what we do for money. I know this isn't really thirdgen related, unless you consider the fact that if I don't get a job, I'll have to get rid of mine! Any leads are appreciated. Thanks, guys.

What area are you looking in? Jon market sucks, but jobs are to be had for people with degrees.

I'm looking for anything. My degree is in English and philosophy, with a minor in math. My grades were excellent. I've also worked as an engineer for a summer. I guess I'm just looking for something clerical to make ends meet, but I would really like to do something that involved writing, editing, or research. My math, writing, and analytical skills are quite good. I'm also not afraid to get my hands dirty. I've worked in construction, too.

Have you tried any of the Colleges, University of Houston has a bunch of campus', HBU, HCC.

Well, as far as teaching goes at the campuses, you need a M.A. degree in the discipline that you want to teach in, as far as I know. I guess I could look at more administrative-type jobs there. Thanks for the advice.

Not so, you can teach at HCC w/ an associates degree and 3 years field experience for some classes. There are jobs out there, don't give up. If my 19 year old *** w/ 16 credit hours can land an IT job @ an Engineering firm, you can get a WAY better(read: secure) job w/ that degree you've got. Just hope the same is true when I have a degree of my own.

I work for a subsidary of General Electric; GE Wind Energy, to be specific.

If you have ANY electrical and/or mechanical experience at all, try penpower.com and fill out an online app. I'm both a commissioner of wind turbines and an instructor of commissioning and tower rescue, and i've had students from all walks of life, so if you dont mind climbing (the towers are about 280' tall), and staying on the road for extended periods of time, give it a shot...

Wow! Way to bring this thread back from the dead! . Since I posted this four years ago, I've had two jobs and gotten my MA. Since getting my MA in spring of 2005, I landed a pretty decent job with a software company. Now I do technical writing, and a little software development! My car, however, is still not running, but I'm trying to put an end to that now that I have a steady job, some time, and a garage.
