emissions and 'classic' status

i know in some states that after a car is 25 years old it doesn't have to pass emissions anymore. But what is the law in maricopa county?

i ask this because emissions are always a PITA and my '82 is getting close to the quarter century mark. and no emissions would be nice.

In the state of Arizona (and everywhere else for that matter) I believe it is actually 26 years before a car reaches classic status. As far as emmisions is concerned, the only reason the older cars get away with not running em' is they were built without the right equipment. Since our thirdgens were built to emmisions standards, I don't think we'll ever get out of it!

I think Bruce is rite though! we probabaly wont ever see it, i know i have 4 yrs until my car is 20yrs old. I was told that some cars that were produced from 1980-1992 have stricter smog regs then the 93-newer autos do, i guess becuase in the 80's the politicians had a brain fart.

Isnt it 67 and newer have to be smogged? I think Historic Vehicle plates just are a differnt style plate. It used to be 30 year old or newer got tested, but they changed that

I think it really depends on the make/model...

Historic plates do look different, they have an older look to them and are almost brass in color, and have the year of your car at the top of them...

They are made of copper. I don't believe ours say anything about the year of the car on them. I'll have to take another look at them. They have turned almost a dark brown color from the elements. The backs are a nice, shiney copper.

<yuma,az

just drive to that town and get insured there..If you get in an accident it will be covered since you are just visiting.. The police will always tell you to get a change of address.. just tell them you are visiting... Now the trick is when you work in the city of Phoenix and register your car in some remote county.. Luckily i work out in the middle of no where half way to yuma anyways!

az law is that only cars 67 and older are exempt. Even though most cars are aproaching the quarter centry mark we still have to test
