I've seen a bunch of our cars out there. Usually see a red Formula on lower 202 in the morning driving opposite direction. Several Camaros out there too. Also saw a Knight Rider mock up a few weeks ago going to Gilbert or something.

Re: surprise,az

I live around Greenway and Cotton Lane myself. I've been driving my '91 Trans Am around about once a week until recently. It's black with t-tops but the paint is well faded in several areas. I haven't had it out the last couple of weeks because it's been dying now and then when I let off the peddle, in traffic. I'm trying to figure out what's causing it.

Re: surprise,az

I'm at Litchfield and Bethany Home. I can see the runway at Luke from my living room chair! I can help with your timing problem if you would like. Do you have a timing light? PM me if you want help.

I built the emissions repair place across the street from the Glendale Ave emissions stations. Every saturday morning there was a line of really nice muscle cars waiting to be tested. Most were definately not legal and some even showed up in trailers. I think there was an employee there that looked the other way on the visual and forgot to put the probe in the exhaust for the dyno. It was odd to me to see so many nice cars there every weekend, kinda like a free car show.

And why is anyone worried about passing emissions in AZ if your car is over 15 years old? All you need is collector car insurance (about $200/yr for full coverage) and you can register as a historical vehicle with no emissions tests. The law passed about a year ago and it works.

Re: surprise,az

I think it is a timing issue. The engine will turn and it will fire every now and then. and almost got it to run but then dies... i dunno exactally what is wrong. but that is awesome about the classic car thing.. you can really do that? I need to go that way then. I mean as soon as i get this car registered it is getting the rebuild of its life. but yeah about the timing. I can get a timing light and yeah i would appreciate the help. I am up on bell and the 303. I work all this week but next weekend would work out great.

Re: surprise,az

Sounds good about next weekend. Sounds like a timing issue to me

In order to get Collectors Car insurance there are some guidelines. The car can't be your daily driver, it must be parked in a garage while not in use, and you need to get an appraisal done on the car. Your reward is unlimited mileage coverage and a stated value policy that really is cheap. I know a few people who have done this and their rates are around $200/yr for a stated value of around $20000. And no emissions!!!

Re: surprise,az

Thats true, but not all collector car ins. policies are alike. I use Grundy and they are not worried about the garage. (Currently dont have a garage, but building one soon.) The only thing they all agree on, in my experience, is that it cant be your daily driver.

Well hopefully when i get this timing thing fixed i will just emissions it to get it legal then i will start working the rest of the stuff out. But yeah that collector car thing sounds like a sweet deal.

It's cheap, too. For two cars (Both valued at over $25,000) it's only a few hundred a year.

Dont know if you regulars on here have already established a third gen club here in the valley but if so when i get mine up and going again how do i get in... I am hoping to have her all fixed with the timing and get her legal by next week. I am so tired of having her sit in the garage. But i think it would be cool to get a cruise like the one you had down central going again...

Re: surprise,az

Well, They (The Phoenix police) only let us cruise central once a year. I used to go to 91st ave and Northern on fridays, where there were a bunch of thirdgen guys getting together but they were all sporadic, at best, about showing up. I quit going there because I got tired of looking like a complete idiot being the only one there and two rows of mustangs across from me, razzing me about "Camaro losers, not being able to organize...." For the life of me, I cant understand why these guys couldnt show a little pride and just show up and represent!!! I would be interested in being a part of a group that is going to show up.

I would gladly show up to any meeting places as soon as my car is reassembled. I'm close, all I need to do is install the engine, tranny, exhaust, rear end, wiring, and suspension. Unless some of you want to hold meetings at my place and we could all grab a wrench... Haha

I have a wholesale account with Jimmys radio in case you need those gauges rebuilt. I can't say I'm good at much of it but i've worked on them a lot and know my way around them. I would love to learn more about electrical. I've also got a 91 rs and a 91 z in my back yard as parts cars that might be able to help some of you guys out too. But I'm in Mesa.

Also any of you military guys wanna meet up here on base I live on Apache...you can't miss the primer grey IROC backed in the carport.

I'm down for when/where ever. The meeting at my place will have to be in about 2 months as I need to move to a bigger garage (and house) and buy a clutch. But when I'm ready I will have the car, lots of new parts, steaks, beer, and a pool. Anyone want to volunteer to be first. I think a week or two notice should be enough for everyone and we should shoot for weekends. Any other ideas?

Re: surprise,az

I have lots of dirt..... But no garage. Sometime in the near future I will be building a MONSTER garage! (5,000 sqft + a paint booth) Probably have that started in the next few months. So who wants to go first?
ffemtm70; I think I've seen your car! Dont get on base much (Every month or so and mostly to go to the PX.) But I know right where you are, LOL.

I know the feeling!! I didnt make it out there today. Maybe sunday or monday. I'm getting ready to pull the 305 out of my IROC and put in a vortec 350, so I have been doing lots of research, trying to find the answers to my cam and head issues, but to no avail!! LOL

Re: surprise,az

Well I will want a new cam for the motor. (The new motor is a vortec 350 from a 97 chevy tahoe and I dont want the truck cam) I am hearing about lift issues with performance cams. I am going to use a scoggin dickey TPI base for my tpi setup, due to the vortec heads. I just cant get anyone to recommend a good cam for this combo.

Re: surprise,az

I have a 2 car garage that we could use. But it is only good for one car. I also have started tuning the computers so if anyone has some know how or would like to start tuning I am happy to help. You guys would just need to buy a $60 part from moates to get started.

Timing is easy. Take number 1 plug out (the front drivers side plug). Stick your finger over the hole. Have a friend crank on the big bolt on the crank pulley, manually turning the engine assembly, until air escapes past your finger. That's #1 TDC. Drop the distributor in, and wherever that needle points, that's your number 1 wire. You can pull it out and adjust it until the needle points where you want it to (usually toward #8). Wire your plugs and bolt in your distributor. You should be at 0 degrees (or close to it). With the engine running and a timing light, you can adjust your timing from there.

Your problem is either timing or valve lash. If you pulled the heads and didn't adjust the valves right, it could cause the same issue.

Yeah, the moates adaptor. I will need tuning after the vortec swap. I thought you also needed a "Re-burnable" chip. (Such as one from hypertech.)
