what's the difference between a starter for an 89 manual equipped V8 (TPI, LB9) and a 1992 TPI? size, solenoid placement?

(It appears the manual and auto tranny 1992 TPI received the same starter)

I believe the manual trans cars use a smaller flywheel than the auto trans cars — 153 tooth vs. 168 tooth.

If you buy a high torque mini-starter it will work with either trans. They come with two sets of mounting holes to accomodate both flywheels.

Naw 168 tooth was used in big blocks. All thirdgens have 153 tooth flywheels/flexplates. The starter difference is just because of the different bellhousing on the auto vs manual.

In my case, the auto starter had a larger diameter than the manual starter. Don't forget that the starter mounting bolts are shorter for the manual starter also.
