California Introduces Bill to Require ANNUAL Emissions Tests for Vehicles 15-Years Old and Older
Details (from a perspective I share):
A.B. 616 ignores the minimal impact vintage cars have on air quality.
A.B. 616 could entice vintage car owners into allowing these vehicles to be scrapped.
A.B. 616 ignores the fact that vehicles 15-years old and older still constitute a small portion of the overall vehicle population and are a poor source from which to look for emissions reduction.
A.B. 616 ignores the fact that classic vehicles are overwhelmingly well-maintained and infrequently driven.
A.B. 616 would increase costs by creating an annual inspection fee for owners of these vehicles.
A.B. 616 represents another attempt by California legislators and regulators to scapegoat older cars.
The bill comes up in 20 minutes so I guess all we can do at this point is hope that there are a few legislators who have classic cars and/or have some constituents that do.

That's the same bill we posted about earlier, but its up for debate this week. I fired off an email to all the email addresses listed in the email I got from SEMA, expressing my displeasure politely about this bill. Hopefully enough others did the same.

Possibly the State is loosing population, but I believe we are still pretty packed in this area? In my neighborhood people are getting scared with realestate there is numerous places for sale. And alot of people are loosing there homes in the million dollar ranges. People are running out of credit and money in these areas, But as we know alot of people are living off of credit. Im thankful my home is paid for. Also the prices in grocery stores are hurting a bit on people I notice shopping carts near empty at the check out stands. Gas is up to 3.41 a gallon. I dont see how people from the 91 east area comuting to this area in Suv's and Big trucks can keep on affording it but hey there stuck in payments and they cant give those Trucks away. Again Im thankful that I have a 4cyl and it's paid for, it may not be a luxury car but hey Im not giving my money away.

Here is even scarier. National average income per family $40k. 85% of those people at the national average have $40k in credit card debit!!! That does not include a car payment or a house payment. So, to keep paying for gas in that super cool truck is just add it to the card.

Sounds like another way for the state to create more business for the smog stations ----> more money towards smog equipment manufactures ----> more fees to pay at the dmv. Its a win win for the state. Then when you get tired of paying to do the up keep on your car (they hope its sooner than later) then you go and buy a new car to help out the struggling car manufacturers. Then when you do buy a new car you pay for that higher registration for that new car. Trust me its just another sneaky way to milk you out of your money. They see how much the oil companys are making and they want to jump on board. Thanks Arnold. Don't mean to sound so cynical but it just seems like politicians and big corporations are just milking us on inelastic products and services.

The bills author says its a way to increase the budget for scrappage programs. that is buy clunkers from illegals and give them money for a better car.

Funny enough Branden that CA for the 2006 year actually LOST population.. but it was only 140k people.. hardly a dent in the #'s. I started to see what was happening in CA in 2005.. being in the Mortgage industry i could see what was coming, sold my home in the prime of prices.. took my company out of state, bought a home that was tripple the size of my CA home, for 1/3 of the price, (which now has the value of CA homes).. enjoy NO smog, or lame issues with smog ****'s. Gas is $2.89 for premium (still sucks but at least its lower than CA).. cost of living is 1/3 less, live in a city with 3% crime (mostly petty theft) and NO TRAFFIC AT ALL...
only thing i miss is surfing, and 70* weather at christmas time... its nice to visit once a month.. but i DONT miss living there 1 bit.
and you're right about people and their expenses in CA, its going to get worse, people will loose their homes as they are now.. investors will buy them cheap, then rent them out.. as they usually do.. same thing in TX.. My company specifically works with property's in default and we find investors for them, who fix them up and rent them, NOT flip them.
I wouldnt be surprised in the next 5 years to see more home tracks bulldozed to make way for more condo's. The average family size in CA is 2.9 people.. which is why companies make more condo's and town homes, than regular homes.
back on topic..
