I could never verify it but I think the tract got govt money for street legal racing. With the budget cuts the funding was probably cut, no money no program.
funtucky never really cared about street legal anyway. not enough money in it.

Horrible news, hopefully it is just temporary and they allow it to operate in the future.

"you almost get the feeling that they condone and practically promote illegal street racing" couldn't agree more. Racing is going to happen somewhere. Now that some whiners got the track closed its will likely be in their streets. They must be real smart.

We should put together a protest. Maybe everyone drive over there and park...
The lady that's always working the lanes seemed to know something about it on Sunday morning, she said something that sounded like "from now on it will only be open to Jr. Dragsters." But I didn't believe my ears.

Re: You darn hot rodders did it again
Originally being from So-Cal and having been to Fontana more than a few times. I hate to see this happen again. I have had the privilage of racing on some of the best tracks in the country; all of them in my opinion were in So-Cal. The Late great Irwindale raceway (Not the current 1/8th mile) and the Awesome Orange County International Raceway.
So now another attempt to kill off drag racing in California has hit its mark in the closing of the Fontana Dragstrip. The state of California is beyond redemption when it comes to motorsports. If they cant force race cars and Vintage/muscle cars to be scraped for new ones , Or regulate them off the roads with increased or tighter emissions control , they attack one of the last remaining legal outlet for these types of cars . The race tracks. All this because of the financial mess the state is in and Property values.
Personally I am leaning toward people trying to get their own property values up in the terrible declining housing market.I can not blame them completely, because how many of us have all ready been hit by the declining values of homes in S0-Cal? So they use the noise factor of the track as a reason to close it and regain some value to their homes. They say health issues also, but I believe a attorney probably put that in just to make it sound like the world was coming to a end when there probably NOT any real health issues involved.
It sucks to lose a track and a outlet that all motorheads can go to enjoy the hard work they put in their cars, being with friends and family , or even making new friends! To me it is just heart wrenching to see the young racers being forced back out on the streets to race and put everything they have and everyone around them at risk everytime they street race.
I want to return to California with all my heart. It is my home state and the city of bellflower my home for most of my life. But things like this really make me think twice because I have racing in my blood and to return to a state where a Motorhead can not get a blood transfusion of at least 100 octane on a given weekend by racing his/her car just puts a bitter taste in ones mouth when thinking of returning "home". To the place where it all started.
Thats enough, Im tired. Good night Racers!

Re: You darn hot rodders did it again
It sounds like they have to build a "noise wall" or something.
It could end up like Pomona: don't they only have races 4x a year now?
edit: anyway, couldn't us "street leagal-er's" have a say? Our cars have to pass general noise restrictions anyway, (no cutouts, etc) so therefore we should be allowed to race.

Re: You darn hot rodders did it again
I think the noise issue IMO is the main problem. They are usingthe noise factor because it has always been "their" pet main complaint. Because noise travels.
I agree with you julie. Cars with mufflers should not be a problem. The cars that run open exhaust are. But they are one of us and need a place to run. Not everyone wants to run mufflers even though there are plenty out there that do a good job without hurting performance.
Its the little racer that gets the blame because they have the smallest voice and nobody hears their concerns as to why they need a place to race.
The likes of NASCAR are to big to go up against for noise plus the area needs the income from the crowds they pull in for there events. Even NHRA can not compete against the popularity of NASCAR.
So the locals go after the little guys and use them to get what they want. We will have to wait and see what happens next year.

Re: You darn hot rodders did it again
I agree with the noise travelling...
I used to hear some racers all the way in Santa Ana as a teen, it must have been from El Toro or Tustin but the times I went to their shows they just had classics and drags, it sounded like Grand Prix racers from Long Beach?
But who is complaining about a race on a Holiday? In the daytime???
I wish they'd bring back their navy copters and planes.
I disagree with waiting to see what happens next year... I don't think it will get better.

Re: You darn hot rodders did it again
Noise and population density are typical sources of conflict. I watched the only drag race facility on Oahu, HI, close because of noise and safety concerns. This was about six years ago and it served a population of more than one million people.
The same thing happened with radio control model airplanes, a hobby near and dear to me, in which complaints about those pesky little screamers had them banned anywhere people lived nearby. Modelers adapted to the changes, first with effective mufflers and then with technology by using electric power (which is actually better and more powerful than fuel).
The fact is that noise IS a health and safety hazard with established, measurable limits. Producers of excessive sound levels can be held accountable.
Race cars with mufflers are still race cars. Whomever gets to the finish line first wins, that's the way it is. It's only a matter of time until open exhaust racing is totally pushed out of populated areas.
