Need help with tire selection
Ok I am getting some 17x9 rims. I want to put 275/40/R17 in back. The place I am getting the rims from recommended I put a 255/45/R17 in front. Do I really need to put a 45 in front or could I use 40s? There doesn't seem to be much selection for 255/45/R17. Also I want the tires to be Z rated. I am looking at right now the Dunlop Sport 9000. Are those any good? What tires do you guys recommend? I have Perrelli's on my stock rims right now but I was unhappy with their performance. Which are the better tire brands? I know Michelin's are really good but are also way too much dough. I would really prefer to have the same tire brand and type on all corners. So should I go with 255/45/R17 in front or 255/40/R17? As you can see I am very confused right now so I need all the answers I can get. I want some good Z rated tires with the best traction. Wet traction isn't a big concern since it doesn't rain much here. Please someone help me sort this tire mess out

I've got 275/40-17s at all corners and it doesn't rub any more then it did to begin with with my 16x8 IROC wheels....
I'd just use tirerack.com and compare tires that are in your price range... I went with the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 because it is what I could afford... not a bad tire if you only drive your car in good weather... slick as hell when it's cold though.

So 275 on all corners? I went to tirerack.com and tires.com but I am unsure of what tires are good and what are bad. I wanted to know of people's experience. I know with my V-rated Perrellis I wasn't really happy with them. I was wondering about the Dunlops if they were any good. I just need a nice sticky tire. Thanks for your response Hg I really appreciate the help.

I've heard good things about the Yokohama AVS ES100s I think they were? They're not really really expensive either.

For the price, those Kumho 712's can't be beat. The Sumitomo HTRZII's are alright for the price as well.
I'd reccomend the Kumho MX's for a decent price, but even better than the 712's.

I would go with BFGoodrich G-Force T/A KDW. They are the best for the money.
I too was told that Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 712's were good tires... but they absolutely suck. No matter the weather, they don't hook for ****. All they do is spin. I messed with tire pressure for the life of me, but they are junk. I put the KDW's back on, and they worked great in all weather (save for snow). But after a couple years of driving the car with a new 350, they went bald after a while, and i put the Kuhmos back on... and now I remember why I took them off. Gonna wait till the summer till I buy another pair of KDW's.

I'm running Yokohama AVS Decibals, 275/40/17's all the way around and I would not buy another tire. Excellent traction, awsome treadware, and a damn good rain tire (it rains here ALOT). Kind of spendy, but the way I see it why settle for a cheap tire? Because thats what you will get, a cheap tire. I tried that game before with Toyos. I almost died on several occasions because of there cheesy side walls,so much tire giving in the corners, I almost rubbed the ground effects. Anyway if you want good traction tire, thats the one.

I have heard about the Kuhmos not being that good too. So it looks like its a choice between the BFGs and the Yokohama AVSs. Anyone know about the Dunlops? Should I get 275 all around? I don't want my speedo being off. Thanks for the responses guys, this is the help I really need.

You really get what you pay for for tires. I went with the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS tires and 275 in back and 245 up front. It gives the car a nice look with a little more meat in the back. I figure if they put this tire on the SS's and Vettes than it must be safe and halfway decent. Plus it is one of the last american made tires out there. You can't go wrong with similarly priced brands though.

Go with 275's all around. Our cars have a relatively high biased front end weight that we need all the help we can get for neutral handling(if that's your preference). I'll acknowledge the recommendation for T/A KDW's... awesome tire and can't be beat for value/performance. The Goodyear Eagle F1 GS's and Potenza S-03's are awesome tires also if you have the cash. Also Kumho MX's have a pretty good rep from what I've read around the net at a few autocross boards for street spec tire classes.

I have 275/40/17 KDWs on all four corners - they work real good.
Makes for a 25.7" wheel which is near enough to stock so that it won't throw your speedometer off.
