Spring rate suggestions

Heya everybody.

Well its time to buy my weight jacks from groudn control and im wonderign what do you think is the best spring rates for thie ERS's?

Heres what i have as far as other parts

orogianl style spohn sfcs, rksport lca's spohn adj panhard, spohn adj trg arm, koni reds and intraxs.

the car will basically only be driven hard on the street for canyoen cruises, open track events (ie not drag racing :P). So ride quality and noise etc is of ZERO concern.

I was thinking either 850-900 or so in the front with a 175-200 in the rear.

Any suggestions before i place my order?

Also suggestions on spring hieght. Would be nice to have enough room to lower it 4 inches total over stock for the car shows etc. THough that is a rarity lol.

What size sway bars are you planing on running? With heavy springs and big bars, it may get alittle rough on the streets, esp with all the potholes. If you running rod ends on the rear, you may be able to get away with it. What does GC recommend?

I don't think you can lower one of these cars 4". That would turn it into a Ditch Witch.

Those spring rates are about right. You can get stock replacement ones at around 700 & 170, so those would be reasonable.

Is that pic in Calveras Hills? I used to live on Dundee Way, over in Shadowridge, and I worked over right by the airport.... I hated having to move.

You'd want to get corner weights to be more exact about this, but here's a data point from my current setup:

Front:
Moog 5662 springs minus 1/2 coil, rate=~650-720 lb/in
GM 34mm hollow swaybar
*can't be exact on the Moog rate, their published data hasn't been confirmed*

Rear:
Suspension Spring Specialists 250 lb/in pigtail springs
Ground Control height adjusters
Hellwig 1" solid swaybar

It's set up to oversteer, which it does very manageably based on my track day on Pocono East earlier this month.

This setup is with a light aluminum LS1 engine. With the iron-block L98 I was running a GM 36mm hollow front bar and 175# rear springs...first road test after the LS1 swap it was understeering, so I went up on rear spring rate, that nearly neutral'ed it out, then downgraded to the 34mm hollow front bar and it was happy again.

You may have to go a bit smaller. You'll get to a point where the bars will become too big with stiff springs, making an unnesicarily harsh ride. I wouldn't go 900lbs on a strickly street car, but since your plaing some track time, then try it out. But dont be surpised if you have to use a smaller bar like kevinc did.

Are you going to be running at one specific track, and are you going to tune your car around that track? The other question is what tires will this be for. If you are running 10" wheels, with R compounds, you will want more spring rate, than if you are on 7" wheels with street tires.

I have noticed ground control tends to recomend softer rears than i tend to like. i have seen the 850/175-200 combo work well. besides talking to G-C, you might give Sam Strano Jr. at Strano Parts a call, he is a G-C distributor, and a multi-time national auto-x champ, he also loves to talk suspension with customers . i would agree with Justin86bird, if you are going to really put some stiff springs under there, you don't need the huge sway bars. but since you already have them, tune the rest of the parts to work with them.

(yes this is coming from a guy with fairly stiff springs, and huge bars)
