Front struts: GR2 vs. SensaTrac

I've done plenty of searching on this and I think I'm hearing that new GR2s will probably give me a firmer ride than old SensaTracs, but if anyone has firsthand experience, please advise. i have GR2s on my 70 Pontiac but they feel a little soft. On my Iroc, which is a daily driver, i want comfort but i don't want a slushy front end. the next step up is the expensive AGX.

anyway, i think i have SensaTracs on there now, left over from when i bought it a few years ago. are those GR2s an improvement for firmness, ride quality, and control? thank you.

given the amount of response i got on this post, i think i'll save up and go with the AGXs to be safe.

I don't know about the AXG's, but I put a set of GR2's on the front of my car a few years ago. They suck.... bad. This is with brand new moog 5665/5662 springs. The rear gas adjusts seem okay, but I think I'd avoid kyb all together. The only shocks struts I hav'nt heard anything bad about is the koni sports. I'm putting these on the front soon.

i installed some gas a justs on the rear end last night. i'll probably pass on the GR2s up front. i can't afford the konis or bilsteins, otherwise I'd try them. thanks for the feedback.

Re: Front struts: GR2 vs. SensaTrac

I recently added GR2 Struts and Shocks with new poly front control arm bushings, and UMI rear lower control arms and ,adjustable panhard. I also did LS1 brake upgrade upfront. I have stock springs, that don't sag, and don't show signs of wear. I had monroe gas-matics, one below SensaTrac, before.

I am most dissapointed with the KYG Gr2-struts in the front. The front end seems to "float" and "bounce" over light bumps. During intense cornering, they seem to work ok.

I thinking about putting the monroes back, or buying bilsteins. Are my springs bad (doubtful) or the GR2 poor performers?

MurcoRS, that's a good review...sounds like you've had plenty of experience with them. thanks for posting ion the thread. I've decided against the GR2s. I'm not overly impressed with their performance on my 70 Pontiac. I'll do AGXs on the front.

Your 89 is a good looking ride, by the way.

LB87FORMULA, if you're thinking of returning to Monroes then I'm definitely passing on GR2s!

I'm lazy, so if you want my experience do a search for my screen name and you will find my positive experience with Monroes.
