Strut Tower Bar?

I purchased the edelbrock STB for a 92 TBI motor and it doesn't even come close to fitting the car. im sending that POS back to edelbrock. What are my options for other STB's? I've tried finding some but all i could find was a BMR that looks to be designed for TPI.

Re: Strut Tower Bar?

In my opinion STB's are a waste of money, there is absolutely no way that there is enough flex in the strut towers to effect handling. You have to remember that force from cornering is acting through a very tall strut so even if you have 2000 lb's of force at the wheel you are only looking at 250 lb or so at the strut mount. You'll get about 10 times as much movement from the rubber mounts as you'll get from the towers themselfs.

On top of that they are a pain to work around.

Re: Strut Tower Bar?

My edelbrock STB fit just fine, check out my vbgarage pic. I agree on the stock rubber upper strut mounts allow to much flex themselves. But I got the solid mounts from spohn. I will say that I really didn't notice any difference after I put the STB on, but I got it for free by trading some parts I didn't need anymore, and I would have tossed the parts anyways.

My Edelbrock STB fit fine. What was wrong with the fit on yours? My first guess, would be you had a TPI STB.

if its soooo hard to flex, why can i visually see it on cars?

its a couple sheets of stamped sheetmetal tack welded together. it flexes.

if you want an overly dramatic infomertial like example, take the hood off, put a piece of string tight between the tires, and go corner in a parking lot.

or i could just floor my car from a stop.. that'll show you EVERYWHERE the car flexes.. LOL.

to make the main brace miss the master cyl, the rear brace wouldn't even come close to being able to drill holes in the lip on the firewall. it is deffinantly not a TPI STB

Re: Strut Tower Bar?

The edelbrock stb's have been notorious for poor fit. I have one for tpi and it was a pita to get the fitment right. Unlike the other comments I did feel a difference in the front end even during low speed turning. I don't feel as much flex when pulling into parking spaces and on bad road we have around here.
