Installing Sub-Frame Connectors - Spohn
I've already read lots of posts about installing these connectors. I just want some opinions about carpet removal.
Okay I知 going to be putting in a set of Spohn Sub-frame connectors. I知 getting sick of all the squeaks, creaks, and rattles. The question I have is about removing the carpet. It seems like some people remove or lift the carpet and other do not. So for those of you that installed the Spohn connectors has anyone ended up with burnt carpet buy not removing it first?
I was wondering if I should get the powder coating or not. I was going to get it but then figured there was no point since I would have to grind it off in order to weld these in. What did everyone else do, get the bare ones and then paint them after?

I used the powder coat and put undercoating on the parts that wore off while welding. And I lifted the carpet up. Even if it doesn't catch on fire, which I have heard of happening, the bottom of it can get singed and smell pretty bad.

So you lifted your carpet up but did not remove it. What part did you lift up? Just the part by the door sill?
Have you or anyone else had any negative side effects from installing SFC? Doors that won't open or close or body panels that are not in alignment. Anything weird like that?

I bought non painted SFCs from Spohn, you have to grind the paint off to weld them anyways. You can always just paint them after, thats what I did.
As for the carpet, just lift it up near the door sills. When I was welding them, my helper told me the floor pan was red hot. Better safe then sorry.
Check my cardomain, I think I have some pics of the installed pieces.

Okay. So I just remove the plastic door sill panel and pull up the carpet as much as possible.

On a cautionary note, I've heard of something about welding the bottom of the floor pan can be bad down the road. Something about the welds breaking loose.

Umm. I looked at the pictures on spohns website and it looks like they welded theirs to the floor pans. This didn't seem like a very good place to weld to me because I image the pans are quite thin. I was thinking about skipping the welds there.

Re: Installing Sub-Frame Connectors - Spohn
I had a muffler shop weld mine in. He did not lift the carpet up and he welded on the body seam like on spohns website. I haven't had any problems with them but they have been on the car for 8,xxx miles or so.
The SFC's did make a difference. My car doesn't squeak anymore.
I know they say SFC's aren't needed on a 4th gen but I think they are on our cars.

I wasn't saying that it would break or mess up, just that I'd heard that it can. But, with my luck, I'd rip the whole bottom off the car.
