ft-lbs for Sway Bar Bushing and Size? Does Wonderbar car benifit from a STB?

Just installed my Adj Spohn Wonderbar and have to say that I am extremely pleased with the new feel.

I also replaced my old rubber bar bushing with the poly's that I had from my 89. Two questions here. First, the bushing (Energy Suspension I think) is marked 34 mm. I know that I have a 36mm stock WS6 bar installed. I used a vernier caliper and measured it since I was concerned that it was the wrong size. It measured 34.27 at the mounting point (as did the diameter of the bushing exactly) and 36+ in the center. The bushing closed completely around once installed and does not appear to bind nor does it look over compressed.

I looked up in Chilton for the torque spec and saw 33Nm. Does that sound correct? Should it be any different for poly bushings?

I used to have a Kenny Brown TPI STB on my 89, but no wonderbar. I drove the car with it on and off a few times and could surely notice the difference, just as I can with the wonderbar. A fellow board member told me that the STB really do not make difference on our cars according to the autocross board and that $ was better spend on wonderbars and SFC.

STBs, like edelbrock, claim to strengthen the cowl and of coarse the ST to eliminate flex and reduced noise and vibration.

Any thoughts? Would the 130 be a good investment for the STB?

Yes, I've took off my STB once to do some work on the engine and did a test drive and I have a TDS wonderbar and there is a good difference a STB makes.

The bushings are held on by 10mm bolts (15mm hex head).

As per normal, torque goes with fastener size, except in very rare circumstances. Engineers choose fastener sizes according to the clamping force and working load that it must sustain.

Torque on that size hardware should be around 40-45 ft-lbs. Not sure how many N-m that is; I think it's about 35-38 or so, but I'm not positive.

The "wonderbar" holds the "frame rails" a constant distance apart, which helps with the steering system geometry above all else. The STB holds the strut towers a constant distance apart, which adds some rigidity to that part of the chassis, which tends to flex under hard cornering loads. As far as "notice", that's kind of subjective; no hard standard for that. Most people I know that have put them on report that it solidified the car somewhat in a general way, but didn't make a "dramatic" effect, the way SFCs do.

On my car I can definately notice that the dashboard shakes and rattles alot less when the STB is installed compared to when it's not. So less squeaks tells me it at least does something to stiffen the car up.
