Right now I'm cleaning and painting the welds....

I'll let you know after tomorrow (heading to a car show about 100 klicks away on the long and winding road.

Looks good! I've been to four shops so far and they're all confused at how they get installed. I'll show them these pictures so hopefully they'll understand!

You might be better off if you find a shop that has already installed a few and knows exactly how to install them.

I'm in Utah...I went to 14 different shops...only 4 would even touch them. Something about "not being able to warranty the work of the welds" or some such nonsense. Three of them were chain muffler shops who flat out said said "we don't do custom work"....

Car rides like it's on rails....very pleased with Spohn's SFC's.

looks good. nice work on the welds. did you weld the bars up to the underside? as in the middle of the sfc.

The side rails are welded to the outside with a spot weld every 6 inches.

Did you need to pull back the interior carpet when you welded them?

Just removed the plastic door sills and put some wooden wedges under the carpet (there's also a screw in the front passenger side under the sub frame that needs to be removed so you can slide a wedge there).
A lot less work than removing the carpet completely from the car.

I had my Spohn SFCs welded in with not problems and did not remove the carpet. A good welder can do the job, They been on since Spohn released the tube type SFC, and they were a very good mod.

for the little time that it takes, why would you not remove the carpet? A good welder puts heat into the metal. Hot metal with carpet and insulation sitting on it starts fires. Fires destroy cars, garages, homes, etc. Why take that risk? That insulation doesnt usually just burst into flames, it smolders. Everytime I weld anywhere near carpet or insulation, I always move it the most that I can, and have someone with both a fire extinguisher and a spray bottle of water.

Why take the risk? Pull the carpet or atleast raise it up.

Alot of people will argue about whether a carpet needs to be removed or not. I did my T56 swap, and had to cut a hole in the floor for the shifter. I used a grinder and a cutoff wheel. (basically no heat compared to a welder).

It was done in the winter. Even so, the "sparks" from the cutoff wheel were enough to burn (smolder) the old sweater i was shielding the dash with, and the damp cloth i had placed under the carpet was steaming like crazy and was dry in no time. The floor was too hot too touch.

This is a GRINDER, what could a welder do? Dont be lazy, remove or raise the carpet.

Wow, those are look like they are tucked up nice and tight. Can you see them at all from the side of the car?

Nope, not visible at all,when you put the rubber side rails back on the only you can see them is when the car is on a lift.

Did you have to take off your exhaust to put those on? How did you weld that support bar above the exhaust?

I just ordered mine yesterday. Its nice to see some detailed pics. I am still debating whether to install them myself or pay someone.

I cant wait to get them in my car now you have me all excited!!

I didn't have to remove the exhaust...but if you have dual cats you may have to remove them to be able to get up in there (as you can see my cats are gone so it wasn't a problem to weld the cross member).

Cool, thanks for the info. Oh, did you notice a difference in the squeaks and rattles in the car from the twisting? Or is that a bunch of BS companies tell the customers?

I never had any squeaks or rattles (cars only got 31K on the clock), but I do notice a lot less flex (driveways, etc..

Boy you are lucky!! 31K!!! I have 115+ showing!! Good tho hear a lot less flex I am hoping so much it helps in that area as well!
