The seller didn't know what size the ring gear is, or what the ratio is. Do any of you? Apparently it's a 10-bolt.

Re: What rear end is this?
Get onto a parts supplier website and search for the parts (ring gear, etc) for the rear end for that year/model car. Might also be able to find the stock gear ratio that way as well.

No way to tell what the gears are without knowing the #'s on it. It looks like that rear end is out of a monte carlo or caprice.

Re: What rear end is this?
It's from a 94 Caprice, and I assume it's the same ring gear as the F-bodies, but I would rather him check to be sure.

Re: What rear end is this?
When I emailed the seller all he knew is basically what you can see in the ad. If it had a larger ring gear, and since it has disc brakes and posi, I would have been interested. Oh well.

Re: What rear end is this?
Even if you bought it, you'd need to do some fab work to get the suspension to hook up to it.

Re: What rear end is this?
Wonder if you could just swap over the stuff from that rear to yours? I spent $300 on the rear in my car. Went from a 2.73 open to a 3.27 posi with disks.

Re: What rear end is this?
What kind of driving are you going to be doing with the car? If its an auto you should be good into the high 10 second range as long as youre not leaving on the brake or anything like that.

Re: What rear end is this?
I have access to a 9" with 3:73's, and a powertrax locker, built to use all stock suspension components, but it has drums, but I'd be willing to sacrifice a little of that strength for having rear disc. I was just thinking that if this rear end wasn't as weak as the stock ones, it might be cheaper to buy that and use it, rather than convert a 9" to disc brakes.

Re: What rear end is this?
How much is it going to cost to convert it? Check this thread out, it might help...

Re: What rear end is this?
That rear end ring gear is a 8.5, no where near compatible with a thirdgen. Also, the Posi in those weren't very good at all. My bet is the posi is toast already.

Re: What rear end is this?
looks like a 7.5 out of a g-body (monte, malibu, cutlass, etc.) and i believe that they were all as weak as the ones in the f-body. buy a 12 bolt from moser and never look back most of those came with 3:08 but was optional with 2:73, 3:42, and maybe the 3:23 but not sure

Re: What rear end is this?
The title says "parting out 94 caprice police car"... So I am going to say it is safe to ASSUME it is out of a caprice. Which is a 8.5" ring gear.

Re: What rear end is this?
The seller said the ratio appeared to be about 3:10, so I assume it's 3:08.
Anyways, after finding this kit:
http://www.speedwaymotors.com/BOLT-O...FORD,5336.html
, I think I've settled on the 9".
(the one with the provisions for parking brake) $449

In the end, my last girl settled on the 9" as well.
