Anyone use MOOG springs?

How do they look height wise? I don't want my GTA to look like a ******* thirdgen monster truck. What is the spring rates on them? If you have the part #, that would be a plus. Thanks

I replaced mine last year, front and rear, with MOOG's, and the car sits at "stock" height. I don't have the part # handy, but can get it for you later on...

I have them; I got mine from NAPA (reboxed Moog), I looked them up for IIRC a 87 IROC with optional suspension. They end up being the shortest, highest rate ones with the right shape ends, right outer diameter, and right wire diameter. You can easily pick them right out of the buyer's guide section if you take the time to study all the specs.

The only spring Moog lists for the rear os these cars is the CC number referred to above, which stands for "Cargo Coil". That's Moog's trade name for variable-rate springs. I have those too. My car sits a little higher in the front than I would like; but it has a fiberglass hood, aluminum water pump, mini-starter, aluminum radiator and 5-speed; so it's just light on the nose, period. It's about level instead of having slight (½" - ¾") forward rake.

I got the fronts from MOOG too, and I cannot say for sure I got the CC version, but mine are rated at 700lb/in rate. Like RB, I have a lot of things that are way lighter then stock and my front sticks up a little too high for my taste. I may yank them out and chop off 1/2- 1 full coil to lower it a bit. I have no fears of grounding out with these springs either!

Hey - sorry about leaving you hanging... I forgot all about this stuff. The MOOG p/n's I have are FRONT: MOO5662; REAR: CC635
Hope that helps you out. Once again, sorry - it's turned into one of those days...

I'm running Moog 5662 also, had to remove 1/2 or 3/4 coil to get the height down to where I wanted it. As delivered they were very close to factory ride height, I wanted something between that and Eibach's Pro Kit which was just a tad too low.

I buy mine at a local shop. Watch out for Wrenchead.com as they are confused about pricing...it's ~$70 per pair but they consider them individually, so you end up paying 2x what you should.

Want to hear crazy! I am running the Moog 5664's (707 lb-in) up front (a little high but stock) and 86 CHEVY CELEBRITY SPRING OUT BACK! The rear springs are supposed to be a tangential end on top but in reality the rubber isolator makes a flat or square end spring work fine, as long as the spring is not ground flat just bent flat. I used Celebrity springs to get 160 lb-in springs that matched the stock ride height of the Moog 5664's and fit our rear axle. Gulstrand Engineering recommends this spring rate in my HOT ROD Camaro book of magazine articles and I have had good luck with them. NO problems at the strip or anything. Pretty cool what you can find in a spring book.

Wow, that's great info on the rear springs. Did your Celebrity springs have the little letter-code tags still attached...and what are they?

I was in the junkyard today shopping for a low, soft set of rears for the road course and saw a bunch of non-f-body rears that would have fit. Any help on what letter-code(s) to shop for is greatly appreciated.

On your Moog 5664s, the Moog book shows them to be 760lb/in rate...super stiff.

I just bought GlobalWest S-9 street springs. They're 640lb linear springs. The car will hopefully be on the road in a few weeks so I'll let you know how I like them. They're supposed to drop it about an inch, and next to my stock BZW front springs, they're about 3/4" shorter.

Which MOOG springs would you get if you didnt want an incredibly stiff, but fairly stiff ride.
Basically, I want my car to feel (suspension wise) kinda like the new camaros. It handles really good, but doesnt sacrifice comfort (bouncing hard over every bump....)

So what would you go with?

Kevinc, the spring number on the rears are Moog 5659. The front springs are stiff but not too stiff. Hell, they are stock convertible IROC springs.
