Hi Everyone,

I really can't remember when this started to happen but it is relatively recent. There is a consistent squeaking noise that at times seems like it pulsates and only happens when the car is actually moving. I will check again but I believe I noticed the squeaking may go way with a light application of the brakes. I did also notice that the squeaking seems to amplify under hard and consistent corning and I think it is coming from the rear.

Some of my recent mods and work include:

-upgrade rear drum to LT1 brakes
-Front brakes to LS1 breaks
- 2.73 to 3.42 posi and diff rebuild (completed professionally)
- front and rear bearings replaced
- LS1 DS
- weld on SFC

My initial thought was that it might be caused my the rear disk brakes. And now this might sound completely stupid but the axles move in and out slightly because of the play in the "C" clips in the diff right? Well could that bit of play cause the rotor to move and bind or something?

I also remember reading that loose or broken pads could cause this too but I'm wondering if that would get worse with hard cornering.

Anyways I'm not really sure where to start looking and I was wondering if some people could give me some in sight.

When the brakes were assembled were they lubed properly. So many people I know don't lube the brakes

Thanks for the response Sofakingdom but the pads are brand new and it sounds different then that.

On that note, DrewsCam might be onto something. What do you mean lube the brakes? I have never heard of that before... so to answer your question, No they have not been lubed.

I don't think the rotors are touching anything. I took a quick look when i changed the oil.

Clean and lube the slider pins.

The LT1 calipers should be centered over the rotor, which sometimes requires spacers. If not, the rotor could be dragging on the carrier.

Finally are the pads installed correctly, especially those little springs on top of the pads?

My guess is it only happens more to one side than the other in cornering?

If so then your culprit is a bend axle flange. You are getting a slight pad runoff from cornering even with a floating caliper if the axle flange is bend- it is pulsating the caliper which pulsates the pads, guidepins, etc.

Also- What brand of pads are yuou running? That might be a problem also if the are a harder compound that moan at lower speeds and need heat in them to soften and quiet a little. Race pads are notorious for pad noise

Thanks for all the replies guys and sorry for taking so long to respond, I just came back from the field.

I did grease up the guide pins and actually replaced the old ones with new ones.

WRT the bent axle flange and centering of the caliper, I haven't yet looked into whether those are the culprits yet.

As for the pad brand I can't remember. I had someone order me a set when they were ordering some and had put the brakes on over the winter. But I do know that they were suppose to be god pads and weren't very cheap so that might be the problem.

I think I'mm have to pop it up on the hoist and see what I can find.

This is a bit of a long shot, but check to make sure the ball joints are well lubed. My girlfriend has a lowered Gm truck with non-greaseable ball joints and one recently went dry. It squeaked every time there was any suspension travel or steering wheel movement. Used a needle attachment on the grease gun and poked it through the boot to grease the joint. Problem solved...for now.
