Lug Nut bolt replacement
How do I replace a stripped lug nut bolt on the front? When firestone put my new wheels on the said one of my lug nut bolts were stripped but they we able to get the bolt on, they blammed it on whoever did it last. i dont wanna deal with headach of trying to get them to fix it so, is it easy to do?

very easy todo, you can pound out the stud. get one from the auto parts store and a extra lug nut and a few washers. you can put grease on the washers and put in the new stud washers on the rotor/hub side and tighten down the nut to pull and seat the stud. these are a knurled press fit. you can have a buddy put on the brakes while you tighten the lug nut.

Thanks that is not hard, For some reason I was thinking I had to Tap out the bolt with a drill and do all kinds of crazyness.

good smack with a hammer with the wheel off, it can some time be tricky getting the stud feed through back side It has been too many years since Ive done it on a thirdgen the rotor may need to come off.

You should never use a nut to pull a new stud into place. It's too easy to strip the stud or stretch it. The proper way is to just drive it in with a hammer.

I would love to know how to drive a stud in with a hammer. Do you take the whole hub assembly off and then hit it? Ive installed at least 50 studs to date by using a lug nut (and a special tool thats like a big washer but tapered) and a impact and Ive never stripped or stretched one yet. And no one else in the shop has either. Granted you can if you dont stop when the lip of the stud reaches the back of the hub

It has been a while, but if memory serves 1) pull the wheel 2) pull the rotor 3) turn the hub until the errant stud lines up with the cutout in the backing plate- you will know what I mean when you get there and just give it a good whack! Should pop right out. When you install the new one, a little lube on the spines makes it go in easier. Then, just use a new lug nut and a large washer to pull it into place until the stud contacts the back of the hub.
I would retorque the wheel after you have driven 100 miles or so too... Easy fix.
