Are front suspensions worth saving?

I picked up an 85 Z28 that was totaled and picked everything usable off of it and she is ready to go to the crusher Is the front suspension worth saving out of it? I have most of the bolts out (I think) but was wondering if I am wasting my time tearing it out. Thanks

This. Im going to save the control arms from one I am fixing to scrap just for this reason. That way I can have them rebuilt and ready to swap out at a later point.

Not sure if I share the same feelings for the K-member. It doesnt wear out, the junkyard is full of them, and if I ever hit something hard enough to damage the K-member, the rest of the car is probably totaled.

Fenders would be nice too, since they get dinged often.. the pitman arm, those don't wear out.. If it's an IROC, and the steering box is in good shape, you can remove that, and while it's off, bench adjust it and if ever yours goes south you can put that one in (a regular Z28 steering box is not the quick ratio one, only the IROCs and trans ams got those.) Not sure about this, but if it has an aluminum front crash bar, that is a rare piece that you could install that would reduce about 10lbs of weight off the absolute front of the car...

True, I was thinking more for engine swaps. I know i would prefer to have another kmember than have my car offline that much longer. And how plentiful parts are depends on location. I have to go a ways to find thirdgens in a junkyard. In Iowa they usually get crushed cause they are rusted away.

Pics start at post 19. I'm just starting my LS swap research but i understand you have to notch it for the LS air conditioning.

Re: Are front suspensions worth saving?

If you are installing an LS series engine you would be far better of going with a tubular K member since you gain room/clearance and lose weight. No need to save a K member, If you are serious enough to remove it to paint it then you have the time to refinish yours. Stock K members are heavy and take up space in a garage. I thought someone would want mine but 6 months later still no bites.
