Re: thinking of lowering iroc

Remember, "lower" is a comparative term, not absolute; that is, "lower" implies that it's "lower" than .... something else. It's important to understand what your car will be "lower" than. It's not like you just open up a box of "lower" and pour whatever is in it all over your car, and it just gets closer to the ground.

Go here to see what your car will be 1" "lower than". https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...od-1986-a.html

It's entirely possible that the car might turn out as much as 1" HIGHER THAN what it is NOW, given how bad old stock springs sag after a few hundred k miles of rough roads and dysfunctional shocks.

Why such RIDCULOUSLY NARROW tires? These cars already look like the tires are pizza cutters; putting a bunch of bling on there to draw attention to it, will just make it worse.

Re: thinking of lowering iroc

What would be a good size tire to put on there?? As far as width?? I definitely want to go 18's with 45 series tires to have some meat. But would 255 be a good width??

to 18s with 255 wide tires you need to have 35 series tires

Use this to find the right sidewall height. I'd shoot for a 255 or 265. A 45 series in either of those sizes would give you WAY too much sidewall and make the car sit higher and throw the speedo off. You want to choose a sidewall that will put the overall diameter of the tire as CLOSE to the stock diameter as possible. Factory tire options were 215/65-15, 235/60-15 and 245/50-16.

As for lowering springs, search for pictures of members' cars with it installed to get some idea of what stance it'll give you. No two cars have the exact same weight distribution, so results may vary.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....e&autoModClar=

Here's what I have on mine. (stock Vette wheels 17" front 18" rear w 2" spacers)

I would also STRONGLY RECOMMEND against "chrome". Because these cars have NOT ONE SINGLE ATOM of chrome ANYWHERE on them, chrome wheels look like an alien spaceship was hovering in the parking spot directly above, and some pieces fell off and got stuck. It looks just LUDICROUS on these cars; foreign, misfit, out of place, and besides, just plain wrong with a capital R. Then on top of that, it ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS flakes off around the bead area and causes leaks on the inside and looks ... flaky .... on the outside, within a short period of time. Basically the only reason I can see that such a thing is even produced, is to take money from young first-timers who are not only inexperienced, but also, easily distracted by shiny things to the point that they can't maintain focus on what WORKS. Don't advertise yourself to the world as fitting that description.

Hey Gabe, best advice is do what YOU want. Look at pictures of other members with the same wheel tire combo or somthing close. Chrome doesn't look bad on these cars if done right. I also haven't seen or heard of chrome flaking in a SHORT ammount of time. Cheap chrome wheels might. Unless you're burning through tires like crazy I don't see that happening.

Re: thinking of lowering iroc

I put the eibach 1" lowering springs on my car and it noticeably lowered the car.(maybe too low ) and Im not sure if the previous owner had replaced the springs before or not. The back is slightly higher because i reused the factory hard rubber spring pocked isolators and replaced the front ones with the thing rubber ones you get from the auto store now... I would recommend replacing all the isolators if you do springs.

But i can post a picture of here of before and after. I don't have any clearance issues but I'm also still running factory rim/tires.

Re: thinking of lowering iroc

Just installed the lowering springs... Got them from summit racing and are supposed to lower the car 1 inch all around. Just waiting on the 18 inch wheels to get here via ground. Here's a pic. Ill post more once the wheels are on.

Re: thinking of lowering iroc

Going to put some 18 inch chrome iroc replicas with 255/40/18 tires. Want to keep the stick look just a bit more aggressive looking.

Re: thinking of lowering iroc

Sofa I dont think putting 275/40's on an 8 inch wide wheel is a good idea. I think he's pretty much stuck with 255 or 245's. That's one of the reasons I like to hate on chrome IROCs (besides the chrome)...

Re: thinking of lowering iroc

I think 255's will be good… better than 245's…. but well once they're on.. they're being delivered with tires already so just waiting to put them on once they get here… Will post pics once I have them on…
