Wheels not sitting within wheel well the same.

Quick question, I’ve got a very low mileage 87 trans am. It has always appeared the right front wheel sits out further than the left. I have updated the brakes to LS1 calipers and rotors. This obviously made it look ever worse. Does anyone have any ideas what would cause this. The car is recently aligned and was put back to almost stock specs with a little neg camber. After digging around the web i found a listing of a 4K mike Barnett Jackson car and it appears to have the same issue. Take note of the engine bay picture of the Barnett Jackson car. The strut mounts are maxed out for neg camber. https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Even...-HARDTOP-61946

Re: Wheels not sitting within wheel well the same.

What wheels do you have? Some stock wheels have a different offset on front & rear. If you have one front and one rear on the front, it will do that.

Meanwhile, the fenders aren't "The Car", they're just some tinfoil trim hung ONTO "The Car" out there randomly in space somewhere. The wheels are attached to "The Car". Lining up the wheels to the fenders would be about like walking up to your house and jacking on the foundation because the drapes on one window don't hang evenly. You might need to align the fenders to The Car better; or even, the car may have bumped a curb or something on the one side, which on these cars, makes them bulge out over the wheel. It's VERY easy for that to happen and leave little or no other evidence.

Re: Wheels not sitting within wheel well the same.

Thanks, wheel offsets are the same. It looked the exact same with the 16x8 honeycombs it came with.

About the fenders, I completely understand the logic. I know the car has never been bent or even scratched. It has always been this way, it aligns fine every time. I guess GM could have messed something during assembly but the fenders, bumpers, hood, doors and headlights all line up perfectly.

after looking around lately online it seems like almost all trans am’s with 16” or larger wheels look about the same. GM’s mirroring software may have not have been too accurate in 1982😄

Re: Wheels not sitting within wheel well the same.

It's not about "alignment", as in, what the front end shop does.

It's about the fact that the fender is flimsy insignificant thin sheet metal that you can bend in your hands, and the very weeeeeekest feature about it, is how it curves over the wheel well.

I recall one time I bumped a street light type of concrete round post, you know, one of those that's about 18" diameter, in a parking lot. It bulged out the fender on that side at least 1½"; didn't scratch, wrinkle, crease, dent, spider-web, or otherwise leave the faintest remotest dimmest foggiest hint of a whiff of a glimpse of a CLUE that anything had ever happened to the car on the fascia, chin spoiler, hood, door, roof, or fender, except now the fender was bulged out.

Took about 2 hours to pop the fender off, bend it back straight in my hands, and put it back on. Voilà. Done.

I suggest you do the same instead of P&Ming about "GM mirror".
