My front PS wheel is too far forward and is rubbing the bottom of the fender lip. I bought the car as a roller forever ago and there wasn’t any obvious signs of being in an accident. I have an 18” wheel with a 275/35/18 tire. It seems like the wheel is about 1/2” too far forward to be centered in the wheel well opening. I measured wheel center to center and the PS is 1” more than the DS. I’m not sure how to tell if the rear is installed centered and square though.
The tire rubs slightly and it will only get worse if I install the front ground effect. I also want to lower the front weight jacks but that will also make it worse. Last time I took the car out, the tire caught the fender while I was backing up and it put a crease in it. That sucked!
Does the factory k member have any adjustment when installing? Am I able to move it back some? I don’t think so but wanted to ask. I’m using UMI tubular a-arms that I bought used from another member here forever ago. Now I’m nervous that maybe it’s bent. Seems unlikely but that would be my luck. I also tried moving the caster / camber plate but the wheel only moves about 1/8” from full forward to full backward on the strut tower slots. I’ve found some diagrams online for measuring the frame. Do all thirdgen camaro and firebirds have the same dimensions to check this or do I need one specific to the ‘84 Firebird?
I'd be looking at fender installation and alignment, as opposed to the structure of The Car. 2 very different issues, to be dealt with in very different ways.
Kinda like, you notice your pictures on the wall don't line up with the drapes; you don't go jacking up the foundation of your house until they're aligned.
Same deal here. The fender is TINFOIL TRIM, hung randomly onto The Car at the convenience of whoever is pretending to be working at the moment. It is NOT "The Car". Just because the gingerbread gauze draped onto The Car doesn't align with The Car, doesn't necessarily mean The Car is at fault.
Measure things like wheelbase and track front and rear, triangulate from the RF to LR wheels and LF to RR; verify the "frame" is all the correct dimensions (I've posted the pertinent pages out of the FSM that you can tram your car against); commonsense CAR stuff like that, and see if The Car is plumb level and square. If it is, then ... , you do the math.
