Honestly i thought this would be much easier than its proving. Where do you guys find non drop based open element assemblies? I thought Edelbrock made some w/ IAT punchouts and everyting for under $30, anyone know the part #? I went to 3 different auto part stores in grand rapids (pepboys, autozone, and napa) none of them carried non drop's, the guy at autozone didnt even know what an open element was! Anywho, i appreciate the help.

most younger auto parts guys dont..... if its a performance part, i usualy ask the oldest guy working there.. lol..

anyhoo, i just used a drop base one and left the ring in there...

im suppost to lose alot of power because of this..

i still made more then most people make. i honestly think it doesnt make much of a diff.... but as far as "how it looks like it works" the flat one looks like it works better.. i never believed it..

anyhoo, heres my dyno sheet:
http://josh.swoca.net/board/mrdude/dyno/Run1bigpic.jpg

only "mod" is a open element and a smog pump delete. otherwise stock.

my suggestion to you is to just get the cheapest drop base or non drop base air cleaner you find... 14"x3" seems to fit easily no matter what... and if you find one with a offset base, you will have more clearance from your coil.

i bought mine at auto barn. its a 14x3 non drop base cleaner. i didnt bother knocking out a hole for the IAT sensor. i just let it hang in the bay out of the way. installation is simple...any more questions, just ask

k, i got the open element. 3inch flat base, summit brand. fits fine on top of the tb, ive just got two problems. first there is a hole pre drilled for the IAT sensor (at least im assuming thats what its for), well its too small, and there is a little 1-2 inch neck comming off of it. I plan on sawing it off and drilling it out to get the sensor to fit right any reason i shouldnt go this route? second, the screw that goes into the tb that the wing nut attatches to is too short, the straight one summit sent doesnt line up right. My dad mentioned some sort of extension i can find is this what you guys did, how'd you get yours to fit?

one more side note. The IAT sensor, there is some sort of sensor in the middle and then what looks like 4 little points surrounding it. call me a carless dumb@$$ (you're partially right) but i broke one of those when i pulled the sensor out. the car still works, does anyone konw what these are for? should i replace the sensor?
thanks again

the prongs are just there to hold it on tight..

as for the hole, its actually ment for the tube between the valve cover and the air cleaner housing, HOWEVER, in our non carbed case, it is the perfect place to put your sensor.

im assuming you did like most tech articals say and put a breather on the pass side valvecover..

the aircleaner stud?

mine was just long enough... umm, if you have a vice and the one they sent is the right thread, you could put it in a vice and bend it like the stock one... if i had to i would have done that..

if you're careful, it will look like it was suppost to be that way.

by saying the breather is turned to the side, do you mean that tube?

if you do, theres no filter on that tube right now... what yuo need to do before you start the engine is pull out that tube (takes a lil wiggling and pulling, dont break the grommet though) and push in a filtered breather... i found mine in autozone next to all the spectre chrome domestic parts....

There is some little spongy filter thing on the end of the tube, same thing that was on the inside of the aircleaner assembly. Ill prolly get the vent filter tomorrow.
