I just got my Edelbrock Elite Series Triangular Air Cleaner in today it is absolutely great! It looks great and it fits really well. I put it on and everything fit great, except for one thing; it cleared all throttle linkages and the distributer WITHOUT the spacer, but the screw that you tighten the fastener on does not have enough threads on it to properly secure the lid. Im not sure if mine is the original or not, so yours MIGHT work. So to get around this problem Im going to get the smallest spacer I can find (1/4"). But I would very highly recommend getting one of these. Like I said, no problems fitting or clearing anything, except for that long screw, grr.

Try backing out the stud a bit. You can do that and have the lid close just fine because it raises it a bit. I did that with mine. You may have to unplug the injectors to get the angle of the stud to clear as you unscrew it but you should be able to get enough threads after that.

or you could get one off a tbi truck. They have taller elements and a longer stud.

Yea I knew about the room but didn't about the air cleaner size. When you look under the hood it seems like you can change cams in 5 minutes without removing the radiator or anything. Seems like you can attach another motor in there. Hugeness...

haha yeap, i think i could sleep under the hood of my dad's truck. One trick you can do to an f body is to use the truck filter element and top it off with the stock air cleaner top to get an open element effect or you can use the truck top to seal it off and have a little more filter element. I believe a couple people here have done it before.

You should see the space with the 4.3. You can do headers and a cam in like 4 minutes top. That is a good idea for a cheap mod with the open element. Because when you flip the lid on the stock piece it doesn't quite tighten down enough. The taller filter would allow that.

But if money and time is a factor try to unscrew the stud a bit.

All you need to do is go to any local tool shop (sears, ect.) and buy a threader. Make the threads go a lil' bit lower and that just saved you a huge headache. My $.02

I have everything to make the threads longer, but there is a bend where the original threads stop, so thats why I cant elongate it

My flat base open element didn't fit either so I backed out that stud all the way and took it out. I put the stud in a vice and "changed" the angle of that bend in it to make it longer. It now fits perfect.

Did you try to just unscrew it a bit out of the TBI unit. I still think this is your quickest fix. Happens to many people who change air cleaner assemblies.

I just got it on!!! Im not using any form of a spacer and it fits perfect. I took the stud out and fixed the threads enough to get it on (they are messed up). Tomorrow my dad is going to either get a new stud or get the tool to correct it. It turned out I didnt have to bend anything. But anywho, I took for a test drive and everything works great and I can actually accelerate past 4000 RPMs.

But I did have to rig something up for the crankcase filter. I cant find a push in that fits 3/4" so I took the stock metal tube, flipped it upside down, and put a longer rubber hose on it. It turned out to work great. And the only other thing Im gonna have to do is shorten the stud to get the screw to screw down enough; no biggy.

But all in all, this is MUCH EASIER than getting a round open air element. Like I said, no spacer of any kind, which should really help! PM me if anyone has any questions

i dunno if its true, but ive heard to be careful with the element inside that filter. if it gets dried out it will deteriorate and fall apart into your throttle body--not a good thing. i imagine it would take a while before this happens though

i wasnt gonna say this before, but if you mess with your timing, be careful for backfires! can you say OH SH**?! of course i dont have this prob anymore. that stuff happened in my early days.

Quick Update:
the car runs like a champ and I havnt had ANY problems what-so-ever! I highly recommend this air cleaner if you dont wanna go through the hassle of trying to get everything to fit correctly

well i bought the pro flow today and i got it on perfect and all on my 4bbl not tbi and i knew that it mgiht not fit i shut the hood it wouldnt close without force and pushed the back of the hood up a bit so im stuck with my ****ty 3 dollar cleaner now anyone got any sugestions ?? as you can see from the pic my hood comes down on this air filter too by how messed up it is ..... thanks in advanced if u answer need sugestions of what would work becides a new hood

I use the Edelbrock 14"x3" drop base aircleaner in my car and it fits perfectly. No hood issues, no nothing. Looks #^@! good, too

i went with the oval elite edel 14 inch x 7 inch. clears the throttle shaft nicely injector pod is 2.75 inch and AC is 3.00 inch. have not yet installed. my adapter plate came with shaft to add the apparatus to hold down lid. the bend in shaft aligns the AC. to redo all you need is threaded shaft from hardware store. may be metric?

The only complaint I have about it is that I cant put a strut tower brace on it because the front of the triangle sticks out a few inches farther than a circle one. But owell

i found out the thread to the 454 TB is metric and the adapter on edelbrock is english. the howell adapter came with correct angled shaft just needs a trim of about 3/16 on each end. i dont use sensor.

Does it have to be a certain open air fitler for the LO3? Like diameter and model #?

5 and 1/8 inch air horn. basic stuff. fits carb or TBI. Edelbrock Elite/ Summit. 14 x 7. cleared my linkage. dont know if it will clear the dist?

I found some wires running back by the fire wall, i used electrical tape to secure it to those. Some people have drilled holes in the bottems of their filters and wired it up like that. but im too lazy .
