Anybody know if casting#14102193 heads will work on a 92 TBI 305 engine? What are they off of originally? Looking for a better flowing head for my LO3 -Rod-
Those are 5.7 TBI swirl port heads. They may flow a little better than your 305 heads but the cumbustion chamber is 64 cc and IIRC the valves will be shrouded by the smaller cylinders.
That is what I was afraid of, (TBI heads). I was hoping they were TPI or some other better flowing head.

I just talked to the owner of the local speed shop today about using a 350 head on a 305. He said he had built a few 305"s with better flowing 350 heads, but he found that the max cam lift would be around .480 Because of the small bore on the 305. Even less if you tried to mill the heads to make up for the larger chambers.
I guess it is best to try to find a better flowing 305 head. -Rod-

Every stock GM casting head for the most part is limited to this lift. It is not because of the bore size though. You would need to have the valve seats machined to accpet larger lift cams.
Ahh, I though he was talking about the valves hitting the bore. Because the 350 heads have bigger (1.94 valves). .480 lift should not be a problem for me anyway because I have a 96 LT1 cam in my LO3. Around .470 lift I think.
But if I were to put 350 heads on I would want to mill them down to at least 58 CC to keep my compression up.
Them would the valves hit the Bore? Anybody out there done this? -Rod-

Valve seats? The lift on the cam for most SBC heads are hindered by the clearance between the bottom of the retainer and the top of the guide boss.
Okay, I think the limiting factor is the springs themselves. In most cases the spring pocket would need to be machined to accept a larger spring for higher lift. The other problem is that with lift too high, the pressed in studs will have to be pulled and then the head tapped for screw in studs.
Milling an already thin 64cc casting down to 58cc's can most likely be acomplished by angle milling the heads. Then you will also have to mill the intake, so it will all fit correctly.
Here's some 305 casting numbers to look for, instead.
Don't waste your time with the 193's. They are the same as the 305 TBI heads, just bigger valves and more cc's. You really dont want to put all that money/time into a set of heads that still wont flow, do you?

I am wondering if you guys can help me out. Here is the question.
I have in my possession a 350 out from a pickup and i want to rebuilt this motor to put it in my car.The head casting #is 14102191 and the block # is 14093638 so this is a LO3 or what? It will be better if i keep it TBI or should i put a Carb. in there? And last what cam you guys sugest?
The motor is all apart. It had two pistons with a hole on top,Was taked off a pickup truck, it was running good before the two pistons f***d.My question is can i put this motor on my car, i am thinking to put i carb there. But looks like i am gonna have to change the heads. My budget is a little bit tied, but i'll try to manage it.

Yes you can use it provided you do all that is necessary for the 305 to 350 TBI swap.
Just curious, sas the L05 a TBI engine only?
Anyway, I run an Edelbrock 650cfm carb and Edelbrock aluminum intake on my '85 Z-28 and it runs great. The 350 came with TPI but since my 'Maro didn't have the harness to support the TPI, I slapped on a carb and electric fuel pump. I'm plannin on cam and heads next then headers and new exhaust.
