cams for dummies

I'm trying to get a handle on understanding cams so I've got some random questions to ask. Some of them are related to TBI.

There are cams for old school pre computer, for cc carbs, for cc fuel injection. I've read here at TGO that the computer on carbed cars doesn't do much other than control timing and adjust a/f at part throttle. What characteristics are required of the cc carbed cam?

Crane Compu cams list cams for 283-400 1981-92. And here, the LT1 cam is a choice for TBI LO3 and LO5. So does this mean I could use an LT1 cam in my 400 block and buy some retro fit roller lifters? What would be the downside if I did this and ran a non cc qjet?

I was checking out a Chiltons Manual and it has a cc carbed 1986 Caprice 350 engine code 6 rated at 205hp and 290tq. The cam lifts were .385 and .403. Could this be the same cam as the TBI van?

Cams are said to act bigger on small engines and vice versa. As a rule of thumb, what changes to rpm are expected using a 350 cam on a 400?

Thanks for any replies.

That is the same old "929" 350 cam that came in everything base modlel for years. A 305/350 TBI van engine would use this cam in some enignes. Some were the peanut 305 roller cam. They are about equal in performance. In 1988 or so, the TBI engines in the Caprice cam with a roller. The Police engines got the L98 cam and the Civilian engines the 305 peanut cam.
