Haltech

Anybody know somewhere where i can actually get priceing for their stuff? Nobody seems to know how much the E6GM costs or at least nobody is speaking up. I'm just getting irritated cause i can't get pricing anywhere and i've been looking for like 2 days. OK maybe this is kinda non tech, but i'm looking at it as an alternative to burning PROMS, which i'm discussing over in DFI+ECM. I just wanna know how much the freakin thing costs before i pursue it any further!

Buying new you're looking at around $700. Check frequently on eBay (where I found mine) and you can find them cheaper (mine was ~$500).

Go to www.haltech.com. Click on Dealers. The best price I found was at B&R automotive in Phoenix. They were running a special. I picked it up new for $595.
It is pricey but nice. It's an instant plug-in and you get instant feedback on map changes.
A couple of notes.
1) It will not operate an EGR if you need one. I dont care since I can change the timing map before going into the sniff test.
2) It does not have knock sensor/timing retard capability.
3) The manual is a little confusing if you are running a TBI in the batch mode. Haltech was good to me for technical help(just the one item). I can help if you need it.

Sorry for not answering earlier. I dont look at this site every day.

Hmm, thats not cheap but it'll probably end up being worth it. It still sounds cool, it'd be summer before i get one, so i'm gonna have plenty of time to think about it. Being a bit of a computer geek I can brag to all my computer buds that I'm hacking the ECM in my car with a laptop

I'd probably get it and get better at working with it while the car is mostly stock, that way i can get some good baselines figured out, and then as mods progress I'll be better at compensating for them. Plus while its stock i can just put the stock one back in at the end of my time screwing with it, unless maybe i get it running so good I'll just not want to take it back out Ok maybe i'm being a little optimistic but i'm sure tuning never hurts anything.

It's a good strategy to start on the stock engine. You know how it runs now and you know you are on the correct path if you can make it run the same or better with the Haltech. That's what I am doing before I start the mods.

One other note. In my truck I needed to switch a couple of pins on one connector. One of the injector pins was offset by one position. That may be unique to the trucks. You may not have to do that on an f-body.
Just compare the haltech manual schematic with your service manual schematic.
I had the ***** to cut the track on my stock ECM and offset the same pins so I can switch the ECMs out. It works well.
As far as I an concerned this is the only way to tune if you plan to have major mods. Tuning is not difficult with the Haltech but it is time consuming even with the instant feedback. With major mods I can't imagine tuning "hit and miss" with a PROM burner.
You guys that do it must be a patient bunch.

"hit and miss"

Is exactly what i'd like to avoid. I'm sure it does take a little time. I really do need to get a service manual, i would really like to fix my cruise! It'll keep me from goin too dang fast, thats what i used it for in my old car. If the connector is a little different, maybe i can get some connectors and fabricate and adaptor so i can just plug and unplug to switch between the 2.

My goal is only about 300 HP, preferably around 5500 RPMs. This shouldn't be too hard on a fresh 350, and will take some time to tune yes, but i'm sure it'll be easier than an engine with a wild cam and power adders would be. We'll see, this is at least 6 months off but planning ahead keeps problems to a minimum. I appreiciate the help man, thanks.

Hey BlownBurb - what's your engine setup? I've got a Haltech that I am working on installing into my TA to control my 385 TBI'd setup. Hopefully I can get some hints and tips (and maybe maps) from ya!
