My scrap. past, present, and future 56k go make dinner

Bought it in 05 maybe? late 04? whatever. Car is a 92 Camaro Rs 305 tbi auto with 2.73 gears.

garbage setup.

then the trans crapped out, lost 3rd gear. had that rebuilt and shift kit with some governor work and a trans cooler i put on.

took the car to chicago, survived in foot deep snow no problem. started doing stuff to the car. i put on a 14x3 open element

put the batt in the trunk and added my front strut tower brace. home made.

finished schooling, Benz tech now, and then i removed the wing and added a bit of spray. this is where things got interesting. i started looking around on the internet for tbi nitrous solutions and i found a few plate kits for 500+ just for the kit. thats out of my budget, nx has a good rep.. lets see what they offer... hmmm.. its a dual nozzle setup.. lets look at the instructions..

they show this pic:

ok.. so reading around on ls1 tech i found www.harrisspeedworks.com everyone on ls1tech likes them... why cant i make a universal dual nozzle kit work like the nx kit? the hsw dual nozzle kit is HALF the price of the nx kit... well .. i ordered the kit + the hsw heater.

they arrive in the mail:

i start assembling stuff and mounted the bottle. got it all installed in 2 days or so.

ok i dunno how this post got this big. but im done rambling. If you are on a budget , get nitrous. but then that gets expensive too. 40 bucks every few days. ive run through 15bottles in about a month and a half now. it gets expensive quick!

any questions? comments? your car sucks why did you do that to it?

Let us know when it blows. I want to see how long this takes and what kind of punishment the TBI can take.

Do you have a replacement engine for when that TBI goes out? Also, I'd really like to see pictures when you disassemble the nitrous engine. I'm curious about how long it takes to get it gummy and cooked.

What he said!

Bottle a day on the street is something else man, I've sprayed on the street before maybe 10 times total doing last minute tunes or taking a friend for a quick ride, but wow . Hell if you go through 8 bottles a month that's almost enough to make payments on an LS1 car!

After watching the videos, I was talking about NOT killing someone on the road. I don't care HOW much juice he uses.

I was agreeing with you; no (good) reason to spray on the street, take it to a track

I guess I should clarify. I've sprayed plenty at the track, always tons of fun. The only times I've done it on the street were taking a friend for a ride (oooh your car has nawwwss!?!?!) or just to clear the lines for fun after going to the track; it's pretty rare occasion for me and I don't condone it at all.

Re: My scrap. past, present, and future 56k go make dinner

yea. in the past 4 days ive used 3 bottles. monday, tuesday, and today (thursday).

on the streets.

as far as my strut tower brace, what would you suggest i do? bolt it to the strut mounting bolts? haha. good one.

the point of it is to stop the body from flexing, thus tightening up the suspension action. which it does. VERY well. i wouldn't take it off for ANYTHING.

also, last night i noticed that the pass side uh.. belt bracket, the one that HOLDs the a/c comp and the smog pump, the bolt / stud closest to the water pump, was sheered off, i went to tighten it up cuz i saw it was loose and it was just jangling around. NICE. checked it out more and the bolt OPPOSITE that one on the pass side, by the exh. manifolds, gone too. no damn wonder why the a/c comp wobbles so much at idle (i can feel it in the car. LOL).

what a bad *** ride. i found some 15x8 chevy wheels for 15 bucks each. wish i could find slicks for 15 bucks each. bleh.

lets get this bitch packin the wheels on the street! woooo!

Re: My scrap. past, present, and future 56k go make dinner

First off, I've never seen an STB not bolted to the top of the strut tower. Yours appears to be bolted to the side. I have also never seen one using less than two bolts per side, most likely to reduce elongation of the bolt holes and loosening of the part. I originally thought it was bolted into the sheet metal over your wheel well, so you did better than I had thought.

I pity that Camaro. Maybe one day it'll get an owner who cares.

who said i dont care about my car?

would *you* care about a 165,000 mile 305 tbi?

dont think so.

the stb IS bolted to the side kinda. its on the ... top/side corner actually. i measured it pretty precise. precise enough that with the bolts in and no nuts on it, it didnt move side to side AT ALL.

how about buy one that is professionally made and looks decent and functions/mounts properly. You can shell out the money for nitrous, but not enough for a STB?

Considering you cut the air filter element, then duct taped it for your nitrous lines, that would be a good indication you really don't care.

If you go as far to removing the spoiler, half the carpet, why not the AC? Considering you got rid of the blower motor and ran wires through the fan housing to get access into the interior.......

Im really not saying this to be a jerk or flame you, but come on. Put some effort into your mods. For safety at least ...

Re: My scrap. past, present, and future 56k go make dinner

the a/c is gone.
that pic was taken a few days before.

my trans was *built* to shift at ~5700rpm, vette servo, someo ther servo, extra clutches in the higher gears, and new accumulators with stiffer springs.

the duct tape on the fitler is to protect the SS lines. i DO care for them. i used a crap jig saw to mangle the air filter. its got rough edges. i had to make do with what tools i had. funny.. look how the thing runs for being in the condition it is in.
i have a trans cooler too. i *do* care for my car i guess. just not the 305.

i beat the ever loving **** out of this engine, and it still gets me to work everyday. and i dont really care if i blow it up. i live 2mins from work. couple of blocks to the right of me. i can walk. hell. i SPRAYED, going into my driveway just not even 10 minutes ago. beat that.

the stock computer runs the car rich. why would it grenade? massive pool of fuel ignited in the cylinder? maybe. otherwise? no...

whats funniest is that no one around here or back home thinks my car is a 305. its horseshit. i m like, what, you wanna take the head off? be my guest. but if its a 305, you gotta give me 200 bucks. if its a 350, ill give you 400 bucks.

edit: within a month i will be flying high with the 200 shot. ill get vids.

Instead of spending all this money to destroy a motor why dont you build a hot motor that can smoke those mustangs and late model F bodies without nitrous? Think 383 stroker...

Re: My scrap. past, present, and future 56k go make dinner

Right??? I mean seriously... that could be one badazz car, even with the 305. Could be better looking totally STOCK from the outside and in (interior).
Yeah, I could go jerry-rig nitrous into my truck and go fast for a while, but come on

-build a smoking 383 but maintain the stock 305 look...

Re: My scrap. past, present, and future 56k go make dinner

do you guys have cars or did you come in here to build mine?

did i say that after it blows up im gonna push the **** into the ocean? no. dont think so.

Im not worried about it being a bad azz car. i want a fast car. i have a fast car. i enjoy it daily. just wait. i have plans for it in the next month or so. the 355 is gonna be built, and the turbos are going on.

ive looked at hundreds of compressor maps lately and as far as i can tell i would be happy with a single T-72 turbo. my Pr is 1.68 and my lbs / min is i wanna say 43ish i have it written down in my garage. anyways, thats all at 10 psi. i would rather have a 500hp car that dead hooks and goes than a rediculous 700+ hp car that doesnt hook, im going for stock suspension so... it should be a good challenge. i found the tires i need today, mt et streets 255/50/16 .

and i got the bottle filled today too. im gonna go right now and set up some races. right now, 8:30pm in florida.

peace.

All I know is 20 bottle refills is $800 which is enough to get the block started on a nice 350 that would beat your car as is. At least you can use the Nitrous on the 350 when you get one. Nice Camaro by the way. The body looks clean. Why so much flaming, why dont you find someone with 13 inch Daytons on his Thirdgen.

Re: My scrap. past, present, and future 56k go make dinner

Maybe because this guy (whether ignorant or not) has a perfectly good third gen he is thrashing because it has a weak heart. I also believe he said he was a benz tech which to me means either he works for Ben and jerry ice cream or he is certified to work on Mercedes Bens. Either way I think it is poor form to put all that effort into grenading a motor, and half assing when you yourself said you were capable of much better. I drive a shooty 305 tbi but I don't mind, my cars body ain't purrfect but I learned to drive on a third gen and bought my own. As far as most people on here we love our cars and when we bash someone it isn't to be mean its because we all have a bond that is a thirdgen, we just want better for it. *hops off soapbox*

Wow what a bunch of crap, guys like you are the blood and guts of this hobby. There's no fun in building a 383 and keeping it all in the safety margins just to be like everyone else and put up calculated numbers. I've had more fun strapping nitrous onto vehicles that shouldn't have it than I've EVER had racing my car. By you peoples vote he should be a bracket racer that takes the car out on the weekends and puts down the same numbers every time. Am I the only one here that gets why he's having such fun with this? Pill that thing to a 250 shot, it's a high mile L03 it's not like you're going to slavage the block or heads. Tell you what just mention that you plan to rebuild that 305 and watch the flame attack you get there. Also "take it to a track".... did you people miss the videos at the first of the page when he took the car to the track. He's street racing on an Interstate from a roll, more power to him it's his license. Keep the vids coming man you have people who get what you're doing and love it. As for everyone else who thinks this is just ridiculous, I get what you're saying but to me I love seeing the limits pushed just to see how far it can go.

Ishada, you spelled mercedes-benz wrong. its benz, not bens.

yea.. i work for benz. as in.. mercedes-benz. like i said, i hope this shitbow blows up soon so i can throw the turbo on it.

but i gotta go back to work right now. gonna stop and get the bottle filled after work tonight. peace out.

Yea, but the car he collides with in an accident isn't going to be his, along with any of the lives lost in that car.

More power to him for racing on the street? Come on, grow up. Get arrested, lose your license, get your car crushed, sounds great to me! All for what? A "fast" car on the street. Here's some harsh news for you: Your car is slow, there's always something faster than you. That in mind, just take it to the track dude. It's guys like you who **** cops off enough to pull over responsible drivers with similar cars for no good reason.

seriously, if you just want to blow the engine up, take the driveshaft out, sit in your driveway, floor the thing, with a camera rolling, and wait till it goes poof, maybe a rod will come flying through the block and smack some sense into you.

Not how he never said "fastest" or "coolest." He said "'fast.'"

Here's you, blowing Tony's sense out of proportion and ignoring most of his post because he criticized your car's speed.

Here, you claim to have a fast car, just like you'd want, which is exactly where Tony was referring to.

Badabing.

Alright guy, be smart about ****, its all good and dandy that you want to run nitro. But run it on a track with the proper gear cause if something happens at speed, your done either you live or not and you can very well take out the person next to you. So if your gonna run Nitro, go to a track and do it safetly. Upgrade the engine and any other mods properly with the right equipment with the proper tools. I know that I may be only of 25 yrs of age but so far I've seen alot of dumb stuff happen because of dumb***es overseas last yr. with the Army and now Im with the Air Force, so when someones life is at jeopardy and its your job to protect them, safety measures are the key for you and your partner to come home safe. I dont mean to rag, just saying be smart and be safe, not only for you but for others as well.

Why don't we look at this post for what it is: A test to see how long the LO3 can take this kind of punishment.

Frankly, I'm impressed with the motor and what this "Chicago-ish" guy has been able to dish out for it (and what it has taken so far). 'sp63', please keep coming back with updates. I'm quite entertained.

Oh... and this is for you:

Note the tower attachment connection.

Re: My scrap. past, present, and future 56k go make dinner

i wanna extend thanks to the few guys before me. everyone got the point. here is some consolation.

who is more dangerous?

the guy purposly going out on the emptiest road he can find and racing. all attention to that.

or the guy who is casually speeding along in traffic? playing with his radio and stuff?

and as far as the duct tape on my air cleaner. its because the nozzles, as seen in the above NX provided picture, the upper lines hit the bottom of the aircleaner housing, so i had to notch them and the actual air filter element itself.

i put duct tape on it to stop the sharp edges from wearing into the SS lines if they do move when the engine torques over. i thought it was smart. but i guess not.

and yea. i did my research on the strut tower braces. and found out why exactly you dont mount them to the tower itself. as previously stated. go find it.

i bought some uh.. torco race gas stuff yesterday. gonna run some 104 in it tonight. possibly jet it for the 200 shot. we will see how it does. lol.. wait till i get the tires on next week too. somethings gonna give. rear end or the engine. dont matter which one. i will drive the benz to work if the blue car blows.

edit: im no longer in chicago. i moved to FL about 3 weeks ago. from KY.
