Hey guys i know its hard to estimate 1/4 times. But i just wanna know what some of you guys think about this set up. I mite buy the car and wanna know what im gettin to work with. But im not too experienced with tbi cars or third gen's. Please help with your xpertise. The vehicle is a 1991 firebird 305 tbi. Its in good condition. It is an auto with a stage 2 shift kit. And full exhaust, headers, y pipe and catback. Any estimates?
Also id like to put in a 3.23 limited slip posi in the rear and take out the 2.73 open diff. How much would that help?
Again thanks for any help. Im thinking of buying the car, since ive heard tbi's are cheap and easy to mod.
haha yeah 10 sec FAST N FURIOUS lol. theres always a smart ***. cmon this is the tbi forum, havent any of you guys ran a stock auto with a shift kit n exhaust? what kinda times you guys get?
my 305 tbi maro ran 10.1 in the 1/8th mile which translates to about a 15.7-15.8 in the 1/4 with 2.73 gears. might get 2 run it 2morrow with the new 3.42 gears and shift kit... ill let ya kno if i do
just got back, best was a 10.03 @ 72mph in the 1/8th had a 10-20 mph wind in my face all night tho. average was about a 10.09-10.11 so on average it took about 2 tenths off my quarter mile. the 10.1 was about my best with the 2.73's i was averagin 10.29. Couldnt hook for **** tho spun 4-6 feet off the line and spun when i hit 2nd. my 60's were identicle.
sounds like ya need some serious slicks for that serious 10.1 bro
1/8th mile... not 1/4. All i need is 245's or 265's instead of my 225's on the back and id probably be good to go. cause 10.0 in the 1/8th isnt that serious... it equates to about a 15.6 in the quarter...
its decent. im still not gettin out of second gear, if i had another 60 feet i would. i think with a decent stall and some wider tires ill get in2 the 9's i might try the converter lockup switch thing from the tech article next time, its supposed to take a tenth or 2 off a quarter mile so i might get enough for the 9's in the 1/8th.
before i rebuilt the rear end in my car i took it to the track with the 273's. all stock besides an open element, and a hooker cat back that was all rotted out.. ran a 16.07 at i think 84 mph.. barely shiftin outta second in the auto. probably could have done better with a better start.
since then ive gotten 342 gears, eaton posi, hi strength axles etc, shift kit. better wheels and tires, three inch pipe from the y pipe back with a hi flow cat and magnaflow muffler, eibach sportlines etc. i havent run it at the track yet but ill post up when i do.
