305 (1989) to 350 (1972) Conversion

Ok, so here is the story.
I bought this car from this guy that supposedly has converted a 305 TBI from a 1989 car to a rebuilt 350 from a 1972 Camaro.
I did not buy the car based on the size of the engine so it really does not matter to me if it is a 305 or a 350 but if it is the 350 it makes me wonder.
I have read the How to convert a 305 to a 350, and understand I need new injectors, new chip, knock sensor and ESC module.
He already has the new injectors installed.
But the knock sensor looks older than the block as if he took it off the 305.

What the guide did not cover is what to do for pre80s engines.
It says to use a Knock Sensor and ESC Module that is tuned to the type of engine but to my knowledge in 1972 neither were an option.
I would just use it from the 1989 Caprice but I believe that was roller while this is flat tappet, not sure if that matters or not.
So I was thinking, should I just use the knock sensor and ESC from a pre-86 car?

Yes, I know I could go and look up all the numbers and cross check all my facts first about that the car actually has on it.

But assuming that some of the readers may be in this exact same situation, where they have a pre-80s 350 in a 305 TBI car, what might they do about Knock sensors and ESC Modules.

Thanks In Advance.

P.S. You might think this is a rare combination, but sadly I have seen 3 cars in the last 2 months for sale with a pre-80s 350 in a 305 TBI car. Probably for sale because the owners could not get this combination dialed in.

What I would do is tear the top end of and make it carbed. Thats what I did. Easy as pie. Otherwise I don't know wear to get that info but someone on here will.

Good Luck,

Trey

All that You have to do is make sure that there is a knock sensor in the block and that it is hooked up correctly. It should be down the side of the block where the coolant drain plug would normally be. I would beleive that it should be on the passenger side of the engine. I put a 1980 350 into my PU that had a 305 and I just had to put in the knock sensor and make sure everything was hooked up correctly. Plus injectors and tuning etc. It should be fine. Hope that this helps??
