Car: 1978 Camaro Engine: 385 Dual TBI, '7427 Transmission: 4L80E Axle/Gears: 4.10, Posi | Useful tip- swapping TBI into an older vehicle | I posted a question this last winter about the IAC not working in my '74 truck that I had swapped a TBI 350 into. It turned out to not really be an IAC problem. When putting the engine in I hooked up the ignition wires in the harness to the igntion wire in the truck's engine compartment, I even checked it to make sure i got 12V when Key on. However I did not realize that the wire was a little different. It was a steel resistor wire, and while testing it with a DMM it showed 12V, when a load was applied to it the voltage dropped substantially. I found this out by using WinAldl on the vehicle which showed a flag "low voltage - IAC inhibited". That small piece of info led me to the resistor wire that is common on older vehicles. Once full battery voltage was applied to the wire the engine purred like a kitten. I hope this helps someone else. Thanks Rbob and others who tried to help. | | | |
