Re: whos good with 193 heads

i have a 1970 Chevy 350 fresh rebuild
.030 over
speed pro flat top pistons
750 Q-jet
points dizzy
268h comp cam
1.5 ratio roller tip rockers
high volume oil pump
9 quart oil pan
stock cast iron 1968 vett intake spread bore
and a good old set of 193 heads ported and polished manly swirl polished valves
110lb lt1 valve springs
.039 head gaskets
the heads are 62 cc chambers
what should i set my initial timing at i was thinking 12 degrees at idle + 22 degrees of bushing limited centrifugal timing = 34 total degrees of timing. 34 + (16 vacuum advance) = 50 degrees? would it run lol

Re: whos good with 193 heads

well your not jus supposed to set up an engine's timing on what you want. You have to set it up for what it wants...your intial can be anywhere from 10-20 or more! I doubt 50 degrees advanced would be the optimal setting for it.

Re: whos good with 193 heads

They are fast burn and require little timing.

Probably around 20°-23° WOT, for best power.

CR and quench/squish have an impact too.

More like 28-30* total timing at WOT, around 16-18* initial and no more than 38-42* at cruising RPM with vacuum advance.
