Axle/Gears: 3.42
Need a block.
I'm getting ready to do my 383 project and need to find a block. What 350 blocks had 4 bolt mains and were set-up for a roller cam and would work for this application.

don't waste your money on a factory 4-bolt, they are actually weaker than a 2-bolt because of the metal removed from the main webbings. Get an 87+ 2-bolt and purchase a set of splayed 4-bolt caps and have them installed and line-bored.

Having said this, either the roller cam or the 4 bolt-mains can be put in through an aftermarket kit. Dont hold out for either one, although getting the roller cam block will save you having to buy roller tappics, because the hydraulic rollers can be reused, and are quite capable.

not sure when or if they ever stopped 4-bolt blocks but I know they were made at least to the late 80's early 90's. Mostly found in 3/4 ton and heavier trucks and such.

I'll sell you the block I have in my garage. It's an uncut 1976 350 block with 2 bolt mains. Since I live in the same city it shouldn't be that hard to check it out at least. =)
And if you take the block, you're taking the box full of parts with it. I have the complete engine minus intake, exhaust, and cam.
I was going to build a 383 out of it, but I'm just going to throw money at my current 350.

Wish I was closer cause I have an 87 350 out of a truck in the garage I'm not going to build up now, 2-bolt main though.

I got the 4-bolt for my 383 out of a 99 truck or only $125. . you just need to look around, the reason I got mine so cheap was because the mechanic who built the motor for me gave me a matched price of oen I would have had to drive an hour to get. just got a shop around.

As far as I know some of the 4-bolt late model blocks came in 3/4 ton and above trucks with 350s and some NOT ALL corvettes. You know you will have to buy a custom crank that is made for the one piece rear main seal to work in that block. I have been having trouble with my machinest he just messed up my 4-bolt 1piece rear main seal block for the 2nd time. He sleved the block wrong twice!!!!! But I got pissed off and ordered one from scoggins dickey yesterday at 2:30pm and it was here on the other side of texas by truck frieght at 10:30am the next day. The block part # is 10105123 and it is a brand spanking new gm block it goes for $600 plus shipping. Plus the cylinder walls will be plenty thick for anything you want to do.
I bought a new one because I got tired of looking for one of these blocks with no positive results.
