What cam did you choose and why?

My 383 project has come to a halt untill I select a cam.

I got the clearance work done to the bottom end and I need to send block back to the machine shop for the final dip and cam bearings, but I need to check rod/cam clearance first.

Thx!!

Comp Cams XE268H

477/480....

Good "bigger" cam with noticeable idle, but enough to be liveable with power brakes and street driven in a 4 speed car....
LOT OF TORQUE
a 272 WOULD HAVE BEEN TO BIG for my application (388 = 4.060 * 3.750 )

Thx for the input!

I was looking at that cam except in a hyd roller model.

Right now it's a toss up between the Comp cams and a Lingenfelter (LPE) cam. I'm wanting to get over 400 lbs of torque before 2000 RPM. With a lobe seperation of 112*, relatively short duration (211-213*) and a .530-.560" lift, the LPE 74211 is looking pretty good.

Anyone else with a 383 cam??

Thx!

BTW BumpaD82, eng looks nice!!
Wish i was that far along w/mine..

The LPE 219 cam is a better one than the 211. I had that cam in my 383 with SR, and it ran good.

New cam is custom comp hyd roller 230-236 dur .603-.608 lift 114 lsa.

my cam is a gm performance parts solid lifter cam.

.493/.512 lift 257*/269* dur. @ .050

it's quite radical sounding but has very good all around power and i don't mind driving it at all on the street.

I am starting off with a zz4 cam. It is small for a 383 but it should work good with a less than perfect exhaust system. I dont race my car I just want more power.

G.M. Hotcam and it runs very well great low end torque and ends around 6000, perfect for the street. Check out last months Chevy High Performance for dyno figures with Vortech heads.

If you are using HiPo H-beam rods than you shouldn't have an issue with rod/cam clearance.

If you are worried about it get your specs for your cam and call up the manufacturer and get the part numbers for a "Small Base Circle" Camshaft.

I ran into a rod/cam clearance issue, so I purchased a small base circle cam and at timing nothing touches.

Also, don't balance your stuff until you have clearanced the pistons-to-counterweight and the rod bolts if you have to clearance them.
