Tach is way off!!
Well, just got the 84 back from the garage today. Had a new clutch master cylinder/ slave cylinder setup installed. Mechanic also bypassed the "push to start" feature on the clutch. As soon as I drove the car, I noticed the tachometer was off by over 1000 rpm [high]. Any clues as to what might have caused this? Any help is appreciated.

Car: '86 IROC, black and sharp
Engine: 305 tpi, bone stock

Axle/Gears: 3.42 pos w/rear db
Couldn't begin to tell you how to fix the one you've got. I've seen 2 bad ones so far (both read higher than true engine rpm) and we just installed junkyard replacements (their pretty cheap and common still).

Mine reads fine at low rpm's and low at high. I got a number from the local stealership. It's a place that calibrates tachs. I haven't called 'em yet but plan to.

first verify with another tach that yours is wrong, I recently saw the tach in my brothers HO go wacky, it was the pickup and modual. his was jumping around and his car began to misfire and was hard to crank with wayy advanced timing, even though the static timing was fine. Do you hear any pinging when you accellerate?? it could be the modual and pickup.
