That is a drop base Edelbrock 4207 air breather, but the 3" element raised it enough that the motor touched the hood and you could hear it rattle. With a 4" highrise intake, it only left me with only 1" left of clearance above the base of the air horn. I cut a piece of 2.5" metal, formed it round in place of the element, made a spout and channeled the air in from a TPI air breather assembly. In this breather assembly, there are 2 K&N filters and then 2, 90 degree elbow air ducts underneath to grab the air in from the fog light openings. I know if I cut the hood open, it would be best, but I'd like the car to keep its stock appearance. Man I long for those 60s muscle cars where that never was any problems.

I just wanted to get the motor in, wired up and made sure it ran, so its a little messy. I'm going to be pulling the car apart pretty soon, repair some rust, freshen the motor up, and a bunch of other things then get both the T/A's painted.
and just for fun, the 96's engine:

This thread is so unbeleivable old. I was looking in this thing before I did my first motor swap in a Camaro.
Im still getting emails when people reply to this thread, for over 4 years now.
So I figured I would come back and post my engine, Vrooom, since thats what its for.
First thing I did was paint the engine bay GM Sunset metallic, because Ive always wanted a car in that colour.
Making a long story short, here it is almost complete:
I made 590 RWHP with it on C16 and 440RWHP on pump gas. Sorry if it isnt a thirdgen, but I'd like you to beleive it was built in the memory of my thirdgen from so long ago.
My engine bay looks a little different now too! Same equipment, but it's got a new car wrapped around it! =P
