Yeah, what is your favorite oil filter? Sure, you get what you pay for, that's why I'm puting the aproximate price for each. I'm tight on money and I'm gonna change my oil about every 2,500 miles so I don't need a $20 filter. Anyways, go for it. -89IRO

man i havent really had good luck with fram oil filters some peeps are die hard fram fans but i would buy one. ive had cases with lower oil pressure with fram. if ur on a budget and just want a good basic quality filter go with the brand inteded for ur car AC Delco. just from my experience.

It's hard to find die hard Fram fans on here, thanks to the good info given out, they're crap.

Wal-mart house brand filters are dirt cheap ($3 or less, I think) and seem to work well. It would be interesting to find out who private labels for them. Might be a big name brand (not Fram, I'm pretty sure).

Ok, found a bit more info re Wal-Mart SuperTech filters. They run about $2 each and "are made by Champion Laboratories who make Mobil One and Bosch filters and also some automaker brands. While they may not have the advanced filter media of the highest efficiency and highest priced filters, they are considered premium filters and will peform well."

I use K&N... and they are not 15 dollars, more like 8 - 10 at the local discount auto parts. I've heard AC Delco and Mobil 1 aren't that bad..... NEVER PUT A FRAM IN ANY CAR!!!!!!!! I did once.... the defective POS broke off when i started my car and 5 quarts of mobil 1 everywhere (i think i cried). so anyway i got a K&N ever since :lala:

Ok, have any of you guys ever used the more expensive brand FRAM filter HP4 for chevy's and HP1 for fords. They are 7.50 at wal-mart and I have not had any performance/filter problems and use 10w30 Mobil 1. They are a finer mesh than your average paper cartridge filter and seem to keep my oil cleaner longer. Just my opion.

Thank you so much for info on filter study it was an eye opener, and to hear it from a person who worked there helps convince me even more that tomorrow a good ole Delco PF-35 duraguard will be replacing the high dollar cheaply made and not filtering a bit FRAM H.P4.

The champ labs 'wal-mart' filter is probably the best for the money. It's a good filter with part synthetic filter media. I've cut one open and the construction is good--a million times better than a fram. But that doesn't take much. However, wal-mart carries Baldwin filters at our location(the factory is on the edge of town) for 3.80 a filter. IMO the best filter you can buy.

I use k&n myself. I work at advance so I get a discount..they are 8.99+a 20% discount so its pretty cheap. I also run valvoline full synthetic so oil changes get pretty pricy now

Best bang for buck, NAPA Silver series. Better step up would be the Gold series. These filters are made by WIX, and if you have ever seen a filter cut open before, NAPA's win by a mile. Puralator and AC Delco come in at a close second. And I've done the research, Gold series will trap down fewer microns (forgot the number) at 98% efficency, vs. Mobil 1 filters at 97%.

Just got through with my oil change on my IROC-Z. I put in an AC Delco filter and I've never seen my oil pressure that high! Damn fram filter I had on there before wasn't even letting my oil flow. I found it ammusing at autozone how there were several rows of different fram filters with their "high-tech" looking boxes, and on one shelf all by themselves were the ACs. Thanks for all the info guys. Never will I buy a fram again! -89IRO

AC Delco are nice filters I use the 1218 which is the tall one, they make the short one also that fits our cars, I used to buy the AC filter at the dealer because they had the synthetic ones, I do not know if they make those anymore but they were nice. Maybe in the GM performance catalog. Anybody know?

I've been using a System1 filter now for about 6 years, rinse and reuse every 2500 miles. Awesome filtering and doesn't take up any room in landfill, nor do you have to worry about polluting the environment.
Yes, it's a little more expensive at first, but if it's the last filter you have to buy, then the price goes down, real fast!!

Had no idea so many people were opposed to Fram filters and that so many were more for an AC-Delco. Figured more would vote for the aftermarket performance filters. I've been putting my trust in Fram for years, now I think I better change.

In all honesty, I wouldn't be too worried about using a FRAM filter. I think a lot of the people on many performance automotive boards are quick to call FRAM crap just because everyone else does.
Other than the one oil filter study that someone posted earlier, I have yet to actually see hard evidence of FRAM's filters being so bad that they are a danger to your car... which is what people make them out to be.
Hell, even the guy that did the so called "study" mentioned that one of FRAM's filters wasn't all that bad.

You forgot the NAPA gold filter, it is one of the best if not the best and is resonably cheap. FWIW i run a Walmart filter so...

Geeze antoher oldie thread.
My prefrence for cheap filters are Supertech. If I want to spend a few extra bucks I grab a 2quart PUROLATOR filter. Course that 2 quart dont quite fit on the bird anymore thanks to the headers.
