About 136K. However the motor isn't original (dunno about the tranny) and I'm pretty sure it was repainted at some point in its life. The high mileage doesn't reflect the car's condition. Clean in and out with no leaks.

Car: 82 Z-28
Engine: 383 TPI
Transmission: 700R4
I have over 267,000 on my 82 Z-28. Bought it in 84 with 17K miles. Had a the top end re-built abt 120,000 miles ago. Bottom end was inspected. Found to be within new eng limits and was re-assembled. Tranny (piece of junk 200C) had to be replaced at around 90,000 miles.

About 1000 miles ago, installed a 700R4 and a 9-bolt rear.
200C tranny and rear-end were still OK, but I wanted overdrive, a posi and rear disc brakes..

These cars will last forever if taken care of.

Axle/Gears: 8.5", 3.42
My car (link in sig) has 185,000 miles, original motor, trans, etc. Everything except the alt.

I also have an '83 1/2 ton with a 305 that's 100% original. I bought it from the original owner. It has 237,000 miles on it.

So...... let me guess. Your friends are Honda owners?

We had an '88 Astro that had 188,000 at trade-in. It looked in better condition than most of the used ones I looked at on the dealer lots. All OEM, all original. I replaced an EGR valve, P/S pump, brakes, tires, and lots of mufflers (short trips are hell on an exhaust system). Beyond that was nothing but normal maintenance. I beat the heck out of it, towing boats, snowmobiles, firewood-laden trailers, etc. I never thought twice about jumping in and taking the 350-mile trip to northern Wisconsin in any weather. It still didn't burn nor leak anything, went straight down the road, and had no rattles. For a smaller vehicle, it's a friggin' tank.

Try that with a Toyota Previa. About two trips like that with 2,500# of seasoned oak and ash behind it, and it would be toast.

Needless to say, it's replacement was nearly identical, but with a couple more goodies. It got synthetics right away, too.

Regardless of what kind of vehicle you have, maintenance is critical. You can make anything last if you take care of it. I just prefer something that's a little stronger and well built to begin with. GM has typically had the heaviest fleet on the road for many years. Their corporate fuel averages have suffered a bit because of it, but the seem to be a lot more substantial vehicles. Then again, I'm not counting the Geo Sprints and Chevettes in that category.

Well i've got an 89 RS camaro and it has 106,767 miles on it currently. Havent had any major problems either. I bought the car from the original owner, it had about 90,000 miles on it when i got it about three years ago. Also my friend has a 91 RS camaro with 146,000 miles on it. They only upgrades are a new paint job, a flowmaster exhaust system and K&N filter.

160 thou on mine, motor was rebuilt (supposedly, I don't really know) and the trans is dead but that is my fault. GM makes a great RWD 8cyl vechicle and it will last as long as a honda or toyota. BTW aside from my 6cyl f-bodies I have had more problems form my hondas and toyotas than I have had from the 3 8cyl cars I have had.

105,000 on the '87 IROC... TPI350 and TH700 are doing just fine... still hauls the mail! Maintence is the key. My 89 Buick Century has been driven hard a lot... excessive racing and WAY to big trailers towed, and she's still kicking. 178k on that one... original tranny and motor, with no work to either, other than maintence. I dunno what they did when they built the 3spd tranny for front wheel drives, but they did it right. I've towed a 1970 Dodge Challenger 50 miles, throught a city... a CrownVic about 5 times... an S10... my 18 foot boat... and many many other things that are way too big for the car, with no problems at all. And she will still break into the 16's in the quarter. What a car... just needs good maintenece.

My GTA has 105,000 on it. All I have ever owned is GM cars. I have a Cadillac with 116,000 on it, and my wife's Cadillac has 165,000 and runs like it was brand new. We drove it to Colorado last year. I also have a 92 SSEi with 160,000 on it. My very first car was a 1981 Chevy Malibu station wagon that I bought off of a family member. It had 285,000 miles on it when I bought it and I put another 30,000 on it. It had 315,000 on it when I sold it and it was still running on the original engine. Never had any major engine or tranny work. It had a straight six in it. It was slow as hell, but it had 315,000 miles on it. I've never seen ANY car with more miles than that one had. It was my grandmas old car and she bought it brand new. Matt

Bought my 92 RS new in 92. It currently has 229,000 miles on it.
It's been the best car I've ever had.
It got a new motor at 205k, but it still ran good, I just wanted more power.

wow. that is amazing out of a 2.8. I actually had a junkyard congradulate me on driving my 180k bird in. the exact conversation -

"What's wrong with it?"

"It has a 2.8 with 180k on it"

"Wow those things usally blow up at 100k"

193,000 miles (all me) original 305, no engine overhaul. One rebuilt T5 and one cracked ring gear (stuck in snow). One repaint job and one set of junkyard seats.

Prior to 1983 was my 72 RS 350 two barrel, way over 200,000 miles with engine rebuild at 100K (fist owner had 70 some K).

180K orginal engine, Rebuilt Tranny at 136k, the valve body stoped up and wouldn't shift until the engine hit 4k rpm's so decided to do some upgrades. One paint job, no body work orginal interior(about to get a new one have most of it now). Just replaced spoiler with fiberglass one.
