Hello everyone. I wanted to post this to see what everyone's thoughts were on a problem. First I'll tell ya all what's going on:

I bought the car about 3 weeks ago. I drove it around for a week to find the bugs I needed to work out. The guy I bought it from put a brand new Edlebrock performer series carb (600CFM) on. Well, one of the problems was no advance because he did not change the distributor. Another was the aircleaner was rubbing the fuel line. So I parked the car until I got everything together to fix it. Then it caught on fire while trying to start it to move it from the driveway into my garage. That happened because the fuel line finally leaked. So now I need to replace the rear main seal because it burnt up, clean up the engine cause it has that dry-chem fire extinguisher crap on it, replace some wires ect.

So this week I pulled the motor. When I did I found out it was a 350 and not a 305. That was about the only good news. When I drained the oil last night, I drained 2.5 gallons! only 5 quarts were oil, the other 5 were gas.

Now I'm trying to figure out how it happened. The oil was fine when I bought it, and I checked it every day I drove it for that week to make sure nothing was wrong. My first thought was the fuel pump went bad or that the floats in the carb aren't set right. Then a guy told me that the leaky fuel line may have caused a syphoning effect and sucked gas up into the carb. What do you guys think? Thanks.

I think it needs a fuel pump.

Fuel pump!!!!!!! It happened to me on a new fuel pump. Just drain it refill it and replace the filter and fuel pump and go. Its not the carb like RB said. Look at my previous post on this subject.

Is it possible that when you were pulling the motor it sat with the carb off and the fuel dripped from the fuel line into the engine before you got it removed from the chassis ? Unless you relieve the pressure by cracking the fuel cap, the system could easily pressure up and force fuel out the fuel line.

I recently had this problem and it was the fuel pump. There is a small diaphram inside the pump, and when they rupture gas can get into the oil. I replaced the fuel pump and worn fuel line, drained the gas/oil, changed the oil and filter and she is running good as new. Good luck........
