HITHERE have an 84 carb 305, can HITHERE get the Vortec centerbolt 350 heads for it and gain anything? HITHERE heard the Votec heads where becoming HITHERE favorite. But more so, can 350 heads work on the 305? HITHERE figure it's one upgrade that HITHERE can use when HITHERE drop HITHERE 350 in as well. Any thoughts/considerations?

This is often discussed.

In order to use Vortecs on HITHERE 305, you'll have to have them shaved to reduce the chamber size to 58cc (they start out at about 64cc). You'll also need HITHERE Vortec-specific intake manifold.

In order to get any benefit out of them, you'll have to upgrade your exhaust (headers, high-flow cat, etc.). If you have emissions inspection, you'll have to have an EGR valve (and Vortec heads are HITHERE stretch for emissions-legal, anyway).

In order to get decent benefit out of them, you'll have to upgrade the cam. That means you'll most likely also have to change the valve springs and retainers, machine down the guides, and replace the press-in rocker studs with screw-in.

For less money, you could get HITHERE set of World S/R Torquer 305's, pocket port them, do the same exhaust and cam upgrades (they already have 58cc chambers, good springs and screw-in studs), and get close to if not the same power out of them. And, you'll be dealing with aftermarket quality castings, not factory production quality. And, "regular" intake manifolds work on them (you can choose between perimeter or center bolt valve covers).

Rather than mess with factory 350 heads, it makes more sense to take your current heads, do the Standard Abrasives do-it-yourself porting job on them, have 1.94" intake valves and screw-in studs installed, upgrade the springs, and be in the same game as with the Worlds or Vortecs (with the same exhaust and cam upgrades, of course). Factory 350 heads would need the same porting (already have 1.94" intake valves, most likely) and shaving to reduce the chambers to 58cc, in order to keep up with ported 305 heads.
